Guest guest
- We know now that cords really retether immediately- the question being will they retether and cause problems. I think that, when Marielle was having the pain in her legs, she was going through a growth spurt (23 months is a common time) and that yes, there was a correlation between the cord and pain. I think when the spurt eased up it took the pressure off those nerves. 2 years later (just 6 months ago) she started showing more signs and faster- these did not go away. This was when we went to the clinic and they did a neurological work-up. We decided (I and the neuro) that surgery, at this time, was the best decision- because I did not want any further deterioration. AND- any damage that was being done (her not having sensation in her feet, no reflexes, losing sensation in her legs, bladder accidents) might be reversed if done then. I am happy to say that all her symptoms were reversed- it took a while after surgery- her spinal cord went into shock and we had no bladder or bowel control for a couple months- but the accidents are almost gone.
