Guest guest
Carol, I'm glad that you're sharing with us and I think that the things you are doing with are wonderful! But, if I may quote Buckley, your daughter's accomplishments fall within the range of capabilities that children with Down Syndrome have. I know that your daughter was sick and of course, this will not allow a child to learn. Once was on the road to recovery and started learning, is it possible that she is high-functioning or if you will, less affected cognitively by DS? I know that the GB was helped her a lot. You and you alone (and family) know what factors have made a big difference to make the person she is today. We all know people with DS who are doing as well or better than and are not on GB or prozac or vitamins at all. Some of them may be involved in a lot of activities, some may not. The question is: are higher functioning people with DS that way because they are in good schools, exercise, etc or do they fit into that type of lifestyle moreso because they are higher functioning in the first place? I don't think there is a black and white answer. I think that 's son Neal is a classic case where exposure to the " good things " didn't help him a lot. He needed treatment. Having said all this, again I think that the things you are doing for are great and will enhance the life of any person with DS. Guest guest
I totally agree Marsha! And all the same goes for the TNI, the CM protocol, ginkgo, priacetam etc etc etc...So many factors- so little research. We can't say ANY of it works for sure. And that was my whole point. But at least 'my' protocol does not run the risk of side effects. Carol in ILMom to , 8 DS My problem is not how I look. Guest guest
Carol, You said: "And all the same goes for the TNI, the CM protocol, ginkgo, priacetam etc etc etc...So many factors- so little research. We can't say ANY of it works for sure." Yes, we can say what and how it works. There is fantastic research already. Why are you discounting the research that has been done? The GABA antagonist piece is earth shattering information. We can't get the right dose w/ GB but the next GABA antagonist is very promising. The information already available is very useful and practical. We know more today than ever before.
