On the Internet I read that these sheets are coated with Teflon. A

standard warning has been in effect for years for bird owners to not use

Teflon frying pans since the fumes from the Teflon can be fatal to pet

birds. Any heating of those sheets will release toxic fumes from the

Teflon (the more heat the more toxins). Teflex is also used on cars as a

rather permanent polymer-type replacement for paste wax.

I think there is good reason to throw those sheets out or give them to the

hazardous materials reclamation center in your area.

any suggestions as to what to replace them with?

I make my own " fruit leather " for the kids and that was what I used. It

won't work without some sort of barrier--would waxed paper work? I didn't

want to use saran wrap for the same reasons.

Is there a better dehydrator then? Or can you get other drawers? I'm

assuming the regular " drawers " of the dehydrator are covered in

teflon?
