DADS Sponsoring Positive Behavior Management Workshop, Jan. 8-9, in Corpus Christi The Center for Policy and Innovation, Quality Assurance and Improvement unit of the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) is sponsoring a workshop for caregivers and professionals who work with individuals who have intellectual disabilities and engage in challenging behaviors. The workshop is Jan. 8-9, 2009, in Corpus Christi. Enrollment is limited. Two tracks will be presented, which run concurrently: · Track 1 offers registered nurses and caregivers who implement training and habilitative procedures on a daily basis the opportunity to learn proactive approaches to establishing positive relationships with and supporting the behavior of consumers. This series of four sessions teaches participants to use reinforcement to " tip the scales " toward adaptive and desirable behavior, how and why attention can be a powerful tool for behavior change, and how to safely and effectively redirect potentially harmful behaviors. Individuals implementing behavior support plans, such as direct contact staff, caregivers, family members, behavior analysts, medical staff, qualified mental retardation professionals, case or home managers, and home supervisors will benefit from attending this track. Registration is limited to 175 participants in this track. · Track 2 will help registered nurses and professionals responsible for analyzing, developing, and writing of behavior support plans. Learn the reasons why challenging behavior occurs, how to conduct effective and efficient procedures for functional behavioral assessment, and how to develop individualized support plans based on behavioral function. Individuals performing assessments or writing behavior programs (psychologists and certified behavior analysts) would benefit from attending this track. Track 2 is limited to 75 participants. More information about the workshop and registration are at http://qmweb.dads.state.tx.us/registration/pbm.
