Guest guest
Nelly I think you once mentioned high (multi-gram) oral doses of some B- lactam (amoxicillin or ampicillin?) being able to achieve concentrations in the brain that are active on at least some organisms. Do you happen to know any other B-lactams -- particularly any cephalosporins -- for which this is true? I can look it up of course, but if you know off the top of your head... Guest guest
, Above 6g (and above) of amoxi oral is supposed to achieve some OK levels in brain and or CSF, but it depends on how big one is. It also depends whether there is a lot of inflammation or not. Only by the IV route are cephalosporins meant to be good at crossing the BBB (ceftriaxone 2 to 4 g/day) or cefotaxime up to 200 mg/kg/day. But this is just of the top of my head so do check Nelly [infections] Nelly: oral B-lactams and the BBB Nelly I think you once mentioned high (multi-gram) oral doses of some B-lactam (amoxicillin or ampicillin?) being able to achieve concentrations in the brain that are active on at least some organisms.Do you happen to know any other B-lactams -- particularly any cephalosporins -- for which this is true?I can look it up of course, but if you know off the top of your head...
