Guest guest
What brand of Gingko do you use that is a capsule of sprinkles? I would rather use that. I crush our tablet and put it in applesauce, pudding, yogurt, etc... it still tastes really bad. I think the capsules would probably be better. Guest guest
Yes and yes. We do think it is working, however, there has been a change since the first day. We just started it last Saturday. On Monday at school I heard from so many people how wonderful Kit was, what a wonderful day she had, etc...as the week went on she was still doing much better than any other med we've tried this year, but it seems to be taking longer to kick in and is wearing off faster than anticipated. For example, yesterday I gave it to her at 9:00 am and she was pretty wild till about 10:30 and by 2:30-3:00 she was slowly going back into high gear. During the week she takes it about 8:00 and they said everyday be 1:45-2:00 they noticed the change and by 2:30 she was often uncooperative, defiant, etc... I did talk to my developmental ped and she seems to think Kit is a fast metabolizer and may need an additional, but smaller, afternoon dose to get us through the afternoon. I'm in agreement with that as she is often pretty wild by the time she gets home from school (3:30) and it is very difficult to get through our late afternoon/evening routine when she is "on a roll". The developmental ped said wait till week 2-3 to see what the results are after her body fully adjusts to the med. So, I'm thinking a week from now she will have been on it for a full 15 days and we should have a good idea of how she is going to respond to it and whether we want to go ahead and give an afternoon dose. But, so far, we are all pleased with how she is doing after week one. Guest guest
Reece is 3 1/2 yrs old and we give him the capsules. I open them up and sprinkle it in his peanut butter & jelly sandwich. We tried putting it in a little bit of juice but he could taste it and wouldn't drink the whole thing. You're right, that stuff is awful. Before we give Reece anything my husband or I will try it. So I asked my husband to taste the Ginko so we know exactly how we need to conceal it for Reece to take it. The dummy sprinkled it on his tongue!!! Can you believe that??? He said it was the most disgusting thing he ever had....poor guy! I thought he was going to put it in peanut butter or something...hahaha! Guest guest
You probably already know this, but if your ADHD medication is time-released, you shouldn't open or crush it. I learned that the hard way years ago. Shari Is the capsule the kind you can open and there are sprinkles in it or is it a solid capsule? Kit takes her ADHD medicine easily as it is sprinkles and it doesn't take bad. Sprinkles are so much easier than a capsule you have to crush. Guest guest
I was told it couldn't be crushed, but not that the capsules with the sprinkles couldn't be opened and put in a spoonful of applesauce, etc.. That's why we couldn't do the Concerta it was a solid tablet and she would not swallow it...so frustrating. The capsule sprinkles have worked well for us...especially this most recent medication Focalin XR. I hope it continues. Guest guest
Our doctor told us it had to stay whole because of the time release. That was several years ago, though, and I don't even remember what kind it was (probably Concerta or Adderall XR). If it's working well, then I would think it's ok! Guest guest
I had to buy the Prilosec capsule so we could open them up and give them that way as well.It preserves the time release function of them. :-)As for gingko, I use Kirkman's capsules and just add them to her daily mix with lots of honey and down it all goes. Tastes awful, but she is used to awful tasting stuff. ;-) Carol in ILMom to , 8 DS My problem is not how I look. Guest guest
Margie-We started our son on Ginkgo (Ginkgold tablets available at vitacost.com) when he was 13 months old. He was 25 lbs and we gave him a 60 mg tablet crushed, mixed with applesauce, sugar, & cinnamon. It tastes awful so you really have to be creative to cover the taste. Since then we have increased his dosage to 90 mg. He weighs about 28 lbs and is 15 months old.
