Guest guest
From another board I belong to, waking at night is almost alway attibuted to milk. Remove casein from his diet and it should go away in a few days. (I know the GFCF diet does not work for every child, but removing casein is a good way to start isolating the cause and usually gives pretty quick results.) HTH- Sandy H. Max and 's mom Subject: Sleep issuesTo: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Date: Thursday, December 11, 2008, 4:36 PM I have a client who is have a horrible time with sleep issues right now. He has been waking up at night and staying up for 3+ hours at a time. He starts to engage in self stim and it escalates until it wakes everyone in the house. We have tried having mom go in and tell him to stop (he does briefly), having mom take him to another room and block the stim until he settles down to sleep, removing everything fun from his room except his bed. The problem is Mom is exhausted and interested in any homeopathic or medicine options for the short term to break this cycle. Any suggestions are very much appreciated!Steph
Guest guest
One of my twins had the same problem EVEN when off casein/gluten. We tried GABA found at many vitamin stores such as the Vitamin Shoppe and had good succes with it. Gaba, unlike melatonin does not induce sleep but will help him stay asleep. My son finally outgrew the problem (he's now almost 7).
Guest guest
She could try melatonin - found in the vitamin aisle of any pharmacy or food store. It is the natural hormone that triggers sleep but some people need help either falling asleep or staying asleep. Maggie EvertsCommunication Strategiesmaggietmck@... Guest guest
Steph, You mentioned self-stim behaviors, a term typically used for behaviors that are automatically reinforced, but the scenario you described indicates that the function of these behaviors may be attention. I had a case like this and would be happy to share my experience if you want to e-mail me privately. Gail Steph Hulshof wrote: I have a client who is have a horrible time with sleep issues right now. Guest guest
Has mom had him tested for yeast problems? Yeast seems to be a culprit in many of the sleep problems. Melatonin and 5HTP, both can help with sleep. Nagla > > I have a client who is have a horrible time with sleep issues right now. He has been waking up at night and staying up for 3+ hours at a time.
