Hi Jill, You've got to find a doctor who'll take this seriously and decide to get to the bottom of the problem. There are doctors out there but you're probably going to have to do a lot of walking, calling and researching. Sometimes I think it would be smart for us to hire Medical Private Investigators just to locate them, since these docs seem so hard to find. But there are some who get it. You need some kind of infectious disease specialist who is more familiar with chronic infections than the docs you are currently seeing (who commonly give up on patients when they don't get better--ENTs are really bad for this). You need docs who are familiar with bugs that get overlooked, or aren't being reached by the drugs, due to biofilms, or coagulation issues or other factors that can be keeping your son's bugs thriving and him sick. You also need docs willing to give him serious therapy, perhaps i.v.s. ENTs use so much

guesswork and wimpy drug approaches that often all they do is make the infection stronger. So I guess if I were you, and if you're fortunate to be healthy (where your son is not), I'd start pounding the pavement and demanding help (while getting really educated on the various kinds of microbes that can be causing chronic, recurring sinus infections). If you start reading old posts here, and look through the files, you'll find lots of info on bugs, drugs and complementary therapies. For example, your son might benefit from a Grosson Irrigator (Hydropulse) and a betadine nasal rinse. It's helped me a lot. It's vitally important that he get cultures and sensitivities if he hasn't had them. Otherwise, treatment is pure guesswork. Vets do it for animals, our docs can do it too. Also, if there've been any antibiotics that have seemed

to help, then he may need to stay on those particular ones for a long time before he starts getting ahead of the bugs. He may likely need more than one drug as well. If none have helped much or they stopped working (bugs developed resistance), then he definitely needs more testing to find the right drugs that are strong enough. He may also need a really good antifungal, as fungal infections seem to go hand in hand with the bacterial infections but most docs overlook them. You can check the Mayo Clinic for their views on fungal sinus infections. I think it's likely that most people with chronic sinus infections are probably dealing with both bacterial and fungal bugs that the docs just don't identify. Hope this helps. penny p.s. Another thing you might want to do is have your house tested for mold. What about your son's school? If you're not familiar with

Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, you can do a search and read his views on mold and staph. I don't think he's got the treatment right, but he does understand the way the organisms interact. Like I said, check the files and do some searches for old posts. Lots of info and leads there. windowjill <windowjill@...> wrote: this web group is my last resort to help me maintain my sanity. myseventeen yr. old son doesn't just get sinus congestion;

he gets"knock you down in bed for four days with a fever and fatigue sinusinfection." when he was 14 he had sinus surgery which kept him fairlyclear for 1 1/2 years. i worry about the antibiotics and why he hasto be so sick, instead of just sinus pressure, congestion, etc. eachrecurring episode sets me closer to the edge of my sanity. is thereanyone else out there in the whole world who can relate? please!!

Check this out; it's a water-pik type machine adapted for use on the sinuses. I

use it with

Nasaline salt (www.nasalineusa.com). If I use this religiously, it keeps

rhinnitus that I had

for years at bay (which ENT's and drugs could not accomplish). Sinus infections

have not

been my problem, but I think the machine is indicated for those.

Someone else mentioned Ritchie Shoemaker, and he is brilliant. He suggests

doing deep

nasal swabs and cultures to try to find out what bugs/fungi are causing the

problem

(recommends esoterix lab in his book Mold Warriors, I think).

www.moldwarriors.com

www.chronicneurotoxins.com

A source of pure cholestyramine, which he prescribes to clear neurotoxins:

www.hopkintondrug.com

But using the Hydro Pulse irrigation system may help the sinus problem, and save

you

from more doctors, tests and drugs. Trying to pursue the Shoemaker testing and

treatment (and first educating a doctor about it, if you can't see him) can be

exhausting

and expensive.

Esoterix was an excellent lab. They and an Australian lab were the only labs to identify the organisms Tony also identified for me. Unfortunately, Esoterix was bought out by Labcorp, just like everybody else. penny shakerz25 <shakerz25@...> wrote: http://www.hydromedonline.com/Check this out; it's a water-pik type machine adapted for use on the sinuses.
