Kathy,

I'm going to measure Reece because he does look like he's grown. It seems like he's having growing pains too. Of course we already know his head has grown...yeah!

I just started my 4.5 yo daughter on Gingko (30 mg) today. For those of you who use GB with their children, I'm curious as to how long it took to see some positive effects. Also, is 30 mg enough? This is the first supplement I've tried with her other than typical vitamins, so I'm a bit nervous. Thanks for any advice!

I do believe that Ginko helped Reece be more vocal. We are also giving him Prozac (he's on the CM protocol) and I believe that's helped him more than Ginko. Reece is doing so much now and there is no doubt that it's because he's on the protocol. Aside from all the wonderful things he's doing, he just seems so much happier...maybe because he's more independent??

Jill,

The neurotransmitters in the fetal brain were shown to be altered

(not normal) in an abstract that I tried to post here. Sorry about

that. Sounds challenging with Kit. It is my opinion (unprofessional

and unscientific that it is)that the Ginkgo would not cause bad

behaviors in itself but rather by causing the individual to be more

alert would bring to the surface the problems caused by other

neurotransmitters (dopamine, etc. ) that are not normal. Some

children are very " sensitive " to changes in " drugs " - this includes

GB. My son is not. He reacts very slowly and evenly to changes that

we have introduced. Have you tried diet modifications? Perhaps this

could help.

I agree and really don't believe the Gingko increased her negative behaviors. So, for the time being, I'm not going to take her off of it.

I've been trying to keep artificial food dyes out of her diet. I haven't been fanatic about it, but I do look at all foods I buy for consumption at home and have not bought anything with artificial coloring. I haven't noticed a difference any difference in the past 6 weeks or so that I've been watching more closely. Of course, we eat out a couple of times a week and I'm not sure about the coloring in some of that food. But, overall, she is getting little, if any, artificial colors.

I have not started her on any fish oils and was thinking of doing that as I've read/heard that they may have a positive effect on kids with ADHD. Not sure what to start with or how much. Any ideas on that?

She is EXTREMELY active and has been since she was about 18 mths. old. Now add in her defiant (mostly at school) attitude and she is a handful. She often seems angry and just always negative. I don't think that is the real her. Tonight she is VERY active and VERY vocal--again to the point that it is bothersome--but she IS happy. Loud, vocal, active, but sweet, kind and being silly. I'm attributing this to the fact that she didn't get her 2nd dose of Clonodine today because she napped through it and I'd rather she not take it if it's not needed for school. Otherwise, by this time in the evening she would be whiny, clingy, and 1/2 asleep--but she is still going strong. She no longer wants to go to school and that concerns me...I want her to go to school and I want her to WANT to go and be happy there. I think probably most of the people there are pretty fed up with her constant uncooperativeness, defiance and activity level that it probably shows in their interactions with her and it is a downward spinning cycle. She probably feels their stress and digs in deeper.

Thanks for your thoughts.
