Guest guest
: Yah. Having worked (in Labs) most of my career in R & D with the best equipment money can buy - then seeing R & D funds cut- then slashed- then gone - it's sad in my eyes. I love looking at tiny things in a big scanning electron microscope. Those days are gone (for me anyway).. Guest guest
We need another Sputnik! Apparantly that gave USA/NATO science a real kick in the butt. And these days, everything is soooo advanced and expensive. Back in the times you bought glassware, microscopes, and mice. If you wanted to do biology research, all you had to do was become a professor at some small college, and I have one contemporary testimony that it wasn't very hard to do that. One of my bosses, who looks about 62, remembers the pre-NIH days. He says no one really thought of applying for grants, and there basically weren't any, and that labs just bought glass and such with a little $100 stipend... I guess from the college or whatever. > : > Yah.
