Hi Lorra,

I just had our doctor have the same reaction as yours. She started talking about the fact that Gingko is not FDA regulated, that there is no clinical documentation on its effectiveness....

The doctor is reading up on Nutrivene-D so she can tell us if it will be OK for our daughter to take since she is on a special formula called Neocate One-Plus. The doc is afraid of vitamin overdose since there are so many vitamins in the formula she takes! (Olivia has a rare disorder that makes her very sick if she ingests cow's milk, THUS she takes Neocate formula.)

I talked to our doctor about using ginko with our daughter and she was not interested in what I was asking. She was not open to even looking into it. I'm not ready to give up just yet. I'm going to take more information with me to our next appointment. I would like to be able to show her information from personal expierences. If you have a child that is taking ginko could you please reply with your story so that I can hopefully have the support of our doctor if we choose to start giving ginko to our daughter. Thanks ~ Lorra

Hi Caroline,

If you don’t mind me asking . . . does Olivia take the Neocate

because she does not eat any food, so she’s still on a formula? If that is the

case, I don’t think there would be any overdose problems with it and NTV. I

looked at Neocate’s ingredient list.

There are a couple ingredients in there that I wouldn’t

recommend giving to someone with DS. They are iron & copper. I’ve written

about this several times in the past, but would be happy to share anymore info

if needed ;).

Lorra – you may ask Dr. Cody at CMF if she has anything you

could give to your doctor that may help her decide to go with the protocol.
