I bled for 3 weeks during the beginning of my pregnancy ( I didn't even know I was pregnant, I thought it was my period). I was then on bedrest until it stopped. Of course we were grateful that I made it through but I was always a little worried. I had the amnio done (I was 35), all was fine but I kept wondering if something was wrong. I had a fibroid that I was concerned might be growing so I begged my doctor for another ultrasound and at 35 weeks they found I had a two vessel cord (you are supposed to have 3). This affected the baby's kidney but that is all we knew. Aafter was born, I kind of watched for every little thing and noticed he wasn't seeing well and he was a bit floppy. Basically the doctor's thought everything was ok other than the kidney.. but just to be sure they decided to have us get an MRI when he was in the hospital for surgery of the kidney. Our dev pediatrician was blown away with the pmg diagnosis (which was later changed to above by Dr. Dobyns). They didn't expect it. Dr. Dobyn's took samples of my blood, matthews and my husbands for the research. They can't say why it happened but personally I think it was because of the two vessel cord and lack of oxygen. Supposedly the bleeding couldn't have done this but that seems strange to me since that is when the brain developed. None of the drs. including dobyn's has mentioned that the lack of oxygen or bleeding was part of this, I have just concluded this on my own and from reading about some of the kids on the loop that's cord was tangled etc (which would be the same thing to me). Sorry so long but I do think it's important to share our experience. is doing really well and is our angel. Life would not be as wonderful without him that is for sure, Sally , mom to 11 months BPNH with a patch of PMG
