Guest guest
I hope you dont mind if I get this off my chest here, I thought it an ok place to do since its an egroup about infections. A little while ago I was reading a thyorid book by a dr (Dr Shames I think but would have to check -he's very knowledageble & open minded on hypothyroidism). In it he explained the way to figure out doseage of synthroid. At first I tried to skim over it, thinking I must have read it wrong. But then it hit me, oh I read it right all righty! And figured out just now the doc did not perscribe the accurate dose for me! Now they did this before, and when I asked for 1.25 mcgs they took me 'down' to .88 mcgs! I fired that doc, and found one who would give me 1 mcgs, but now am realizing even that is too low a dose. Well no " wonder " I can't get better, and keep getting all sorts of secondary medical problems! I kept beating myself up cuz I knew quite a bit about natural healing. From day one when I got this diagnosis, as sad as it was, but I told myself I would add natural healing things to the allopathic meds and the two should work togehter well. Then it didn't work. Now I know why! How can it work " togehter " when the dose is too low and not doing what its suppose to be doing?! I now have Sinusitis (chronic), allergies (never had them before I got hypothyroidism), and recentely suspected Diabetes. Well sorry for all this, but that one I just found out. And a couple nights ago I found out there are specific viruses to hashimoto's. Now I knew there were viruses for a long time, but never knew what they were, never know you could test for them. Last night or two ago, I read (some of) their names! No one ever tested me for any of thsee when I was diagnosed. What to speak of the countless time I went in and got my blood drawn. All that blood - they had plenty to check for viruses too, but never ever did. I've been fighting with this disease for years, 11 years. And did so much right; only to get worse, or at best had ok days. The low dose of meds along with ... I really feel I have a virus... but not sure if there is a place online that will let me test on my own. I'd sure like to do that. I now there are thryod tests like that, so I hope there is something 'out there.' I'd place money on it if I were a betting person (which I'm not ha), that i have a virus. Knowing the specific one can help me go after the correct viral treatment. Thanks for listening. ~Priitaa

Guest guest
Other than the home test for thyroid disease, I don't know of any self testing available (outside of setting up your own lab). You could try Great Smokies, but I still think you need a prescription. I'm not really sure getting these test results is going to do you much good. If you really think you know how to treat viruses, you could just try some therapeutic probes with various agents and see if you get results. I can't think of anyone with positive tests for various viruses (which doesn't even mean they're active to begin with) who's had any kind of great success in treating them. penny "Prtha (Priitaa) devi dasi" <Prtha_devi_dasi@...> wrote: Maybe I need to express this more clearly. Guest guest
I have not cured my viruses but I definitely keep them tamped down with Famvir. I take it everyday and when I feel them flare I up the dose of Famvir. If you really think you know how to treat viruses, you could just try some therapeutic probes with various agents and see if you get results.<< You know Penney, this is exactly what I needed to hear! I mean, I have been on that path. Last week I spent a lot of time looking up the said virus (in the book) and hashimotos, along with the key word 'herb,' but only a few had anything, and they weren't that clear. So out of frustration, along with some things I read on thryoid groups about getting tested for viruses, so I guess I succumbed. Anyhow, thank you. I will continue on with what I was doing. ~ Priitaa > > > > I hope you dont mind if I get this off my chest here, I thought it an > > ok place to do since its an egroup about infections. > > > > A little while ago I was reading a thyorid book by a dr (Dr > > Shames I think but would have to check -he's very knowledageble > > & open minded on hypothyroidism). Guest guest
What is Famvir? You know, I had them quite under control for a good period of time with golden seal. Even reduced pain. Its not a pain killer, but a lot of my pain was/is coming from a chronic sinus infection that won't leave. I had to take excedrine nearly every other day just to get thru the pain (headache, mostly right side, right eye, etc; sometimes other side too, and soemtimes down my cheeckbones, teeth, down my shoulder.) Never thought I'd have anything like this! I didn't have allergies (which the doc told me spur on the sinus infection) until I got hashimotos. Anyway.... one day I took a good dose of golden seal and zap, no more pain! Golden seal I then found out, is reputed for sinus infection. So it dries it up, probaly does other things. But now I have a new problem. And suspect its from a comb of the doc keeping me on too low of a dose of thyroid meds (which is why I could not heal even when doing natural helpful things) along with a viral infection. I took some garlic today. Hate the stuff. lol But I feel better. Here is the problem. I babysit my grandbaby often. I dont want to be one of those stinky grandmas with a funny smell! So I stopped taking the garlic about 6 weeks ago, but have not been able to find a replacement, so the infection came back. (This is a new infection, not the one related to golden seal.) Anywway, I dont know if anything replaces garlic, but if anyone does, please let me know. ~ Priitaa > > > > > > I hope you dont mind if I get this off my chest > > here, I thought it an > > > ok place to do since its an egroup about > > infections. > > > > > > A little while ago I was reading a thyorid book by > > a dr (Dr > > > Shames I think but would have to check -he's very > > knowledageble > > > & open minded on hypothyroidism). Guest guest
Famvir is a perscription antiviral medication. I wouldn't worry about smelling for the grandbaby. They love you no matter what. I speak from experience. A cute story: When my grand daughter was 3 or 4 she overheard me telling her mother that I was not eating such and such and watching what I ate. She asked me why I was not eating certain foods. I told her that I wanted to loose weight and become slender like her mommy. She got a very distressed look on her face and Said, " I don't want you to do that. I love you just the way you are!!! " And they wonder why we love those grandbabies. But I digress. There are garlic capsuls that don't smell. Oregono Oil is good. Grapefruit seed extract. There are a number of more but I can't think of them at the moment. Guest guest
I have taken antivirals for 6 years. For a couple of years I took Valtrex and then became very ill so the doc didn't think it was working anymore, that's when he put me on Famvir. I have high titers for HHV-6 and CMV. At the time he took me off Valtrex my titers for HHV-6 were 1200. According to the doc any number over 40 would make a person feel very sick. I think it may be one of those reactivated viruses that took my hearing this past Feb. I was very sick with vomiting, vertigo and sudden acute hearing loss. I was also extremely fatigued and just wanted to sleep. After 2 weeks of1500mg Famvir my symptoms resolved but my hearing never came back. I asked my dr about doing the Montoya trials with Valcyte but my dr discouraged it. He said it was his understanding that the patients have to be hospitalized and some become very sick from the toxins. It would have been a 3 hr drive for me to see him so I decided to wait and see how the study turns out. I wish Valcyte weren't so expensive. Even if the study shows signicant improvement in pwc's I think it will be hard to get insurance to pay. Marie Marie Marie --- Penny Houle <pennyhoule@...> wrote: > That's good to hear. Guest guest
What viruses did you have in mind? Any way you can trace the idea back to the research paper(s) that support it? Sometimes there are early results that get overturned, and things like that, so you might want to attempt to trace out why the idea hasn't taken over the mainstream. Or, the connection might not be so strong. For instance, seropositivity to Yersinia bacteria has some association with one of the thyroid diseases (I think Graves'), but it's not terribly strong. Graves' patients are quite a bit more likely to be yersinia-seropositive than are members of the normal population - but still, most Graves' patients aren't yersinia-seropositive. Guest guest
Hi, I got their names out of a (good quality) book on hypothyroidism and unfortunately, its downstiars. But I looked them up once (actually had the book upstairs lol... where the comp is) and there were a few articles, but not much. I believe Dr. Shames, he's quite open to alternative treatments. So I think I am going to have to surrender to yucky breathed garlic lol cuz I tried that two days now and am feeling better. Might not have too many friends ha (breath) but feel better. Hmmm Will have to find a way around that. ~ Priitaa P.S. Yes, Yersinia bacteria is related to both Graves and Hashis. Autoimmune thing I suspect. Darn, I wish I had the official names of the others but I think at this point, without much to be found (on the net at least) I'm going to try herbs and... garlic. I dont even like garlic in my foot. > > What viruses did you have in mind? Any way you can trace the idea back > to the research paper(s) that support it? Guest guest
"...Graves' patients are quite a bit more likely to be> yersinia-seropositive than are members of the normal population - but> still, most Graves' patients aren't yersinia-seropositive..." I think it's more likely that they were testing for yersinia and found a lot of yersinia in graves and hashi's patients. It's quite possible that there are other bugs that they weren't looking for that could also be having the same devastating effect on the thyroid. The following studies then corroborated those results regarding yersinia alone. I tested negative for yersinia, but certainly didn't test negative for staph and pseudomonas and strep. Also, most people mistakenly think that Hashimoto's is not common, but that's only because most patients aren't tested for it. In fact, most patients DO have (or have had) Hashi's at some point. Docs just don't think it's relevant because it doesn't change anything. But if you've got hypothyroidism, you've most likely also got hashis as well, so all the info that applies to Hashis applies to you. I wish you luck with the garlic. Most of us have found we need stronger antimicrobials than that, unfortunately, but I hope you're an exception. penny "Prtha (Priitaa) devi dasi" <Prtha_devi_dasi@...> wrote: Hi,I got their names out of a (good quality) book on hypothyroidism andunfortunately, its downstiars.
