Guest guest
http://tinyurl.com/gkv9k This is a horrible article and I don't believe a newspaper with any credibility should have published it. It's not even well-written and is full of opinions from someone who apparently doesn't have much knowledge on the subject on which he writes. It's the kind of information that fuels discrimination. Guest guest
I tend to agree with you. I assume the author thought he was being funny, but I don't find this kind of attitude funny. (Ok, the analogy of something being as rare as a gay Latino at a GOP convention was cute, I will admit that) Boy, he sure doesn't think much of people from the Mid-West and Central States! Being Hoosier, I took offense. And you are right, it wasn't well written. Guest guest
I take offense at that statement. I read the article. That does not make me demented. I usually read something BEFORE I decide I disagree with it. If after reading one paragraph, you decided you were not interested in reading the rest, fine. But that does not give you the right to insult those who chose to read more. Guest guest
You are correct. There is a health crisis. But, this man's article and attitude don't do anything to help anyone. He is only poking fun at people he views as below him. Even at that, I was not that upset by the article. I don't car what he thinks, and he didn't insult or humiliate any specific person(he didn't name names). What I found rude was the person in this group who insulted two other group members because they read the article. Most of the people in this group, at least the ones who post regularly, are very sensitive and understanding of other people's difficulties, especially weight issues. I was upset by someone unjustly striking out at kind people. Mona --- Al R wrote: > You are all shooting the messenger. There is a > health crisis. Guest guest
The whole article was quite judgmental and negative, but I don't consider myself demented for reading it! And Mona, is it wrong to knock most of the things he knocked, but gays and Latinos are fair game and being negative toward them "cute"? I think not!Mona wrote: I tend to agree with you. Guest guest
Rich, You misunderstood me. Others may have too, so I want to clear this up. I think any form of bigotry is shameful and should not be tolerated. I DO NOT think it is ok to knock gays or Latinos. I only thought the " analogy " was cute because, to me, it rang true. I have a wide array of friends and associates, many of whom are Latino. Where I live there is a large population of persons of Mexican descent. There is one family in particular who use to be my neighbors and are still great friends. I am often invited to their family events; I love them dearly. Through observing them and their Mexican friends, I have developed a great respect for the Mexican people, especially their sense of family. I also have, or have had, friends who are Cuban, Argentinean, and Puerto Rican. But, I have never met a Latino who was openly gay (I assume they do exist). I have had gay friends throughout my life. I have had more than one gay roommate. There is a young man I have helped out at times who calls me mom and hugs me whenever we see each other; he is gay. Just last night I was chatting on the phone with a family friend who is trans-gender. Not one of these people are Latino, nor would any of them be caught dead at a GOP convention. Most of my extended family are die-hard, ultra-conservative Republicans, many of whom are also bigots. Some of them still refer to blacks as " those people " , think all Mexicans are lazy thieves, and believe AIDS is God's curse on homosexuals. So, if you put that all together, a gay Latino at a GOP convention (at least in my mind) would be a pretty rare sight. The analogy made me chuckle. I didn't see it as being negative toward gays or Latinos. If anything, it is negative toward Republicans. Anyway, if anyone was offended by my comment, you have my heart-felt apology. I would never intentionally insult someone because of their national decent or sexual orientation. I hope that clears things up. Guest guest
Rich, There's still room in the world for die-hard elephant herders. My brother is one. I don't always agree with him but I love him! Hmmmmm, now I am wondering if it is not better to be a die-hard elephant herder than a die-hard jack-ass herder. lol Oh well, I think I will keep my spot in the middle of the road. But believe me, I know this world would be quite boring if it was filled only with people just like me. Have a great day, Mona --- Rich Hardich wrote: > Mona, > > Beautifully written. Thank you.
