Guest guest
I can understand it if your doctor feels unable to treat your 4S - since no one knows what it is (auditory dysfunction? psychological disorder? neurological mis-wiring), there aren't really any options right now. But it seems clear to me that you and others on this list are suffering from related depression and anxiety. Those ARE easily treated with talk therapy and/or medication. I had 4S pretty bad in my teens and early twenties, and it still causes me some distress. But overall, life is good - I have a husband, children, many friends and a full life. I'm not sure I would have all those things now had I not gone into therapy and if I had not been absolutely determined not to let my " strange symptoms " (didn't know they had a name till only recently) win the battle. 4S stinks, no doubt about it. But I feel so sad when I hear about others on this list retreating into solitude, staying in their rooms all the time, wearing headphones constantly. I hope you will all find support, if not relief, for your symptoms. I hate to sound like a nag (I am a mom, after all) - but therapy, meditation, yoga, strenuous exercise and a generally healthy lifestyle have really helped me cope with this awful condition. Guest guest
It's fine if your doctor doesn't know what to do for 4S... mine doesn't either. But the point is they shouldn't just give up on you because of that... they should actively look into it. I would try another doctor. It took me many doctors before I found my current one who is at least willing to listen and try different things. I hated being constantly pawned off to another person just because they didn't want to help me. If anything, don't give up on talking to a psychologist or counselor because often times it really helps just to vent about it whether they think you're a loon or not! Are you on any meds for depression or anxiety? Often they help with the stress/depression of it all but it never really takes 4S away. Don't give up hope and try to live your life as if you didn't have 4S. I know that is hard, but don't label yourself as not being able to have fun because of 4S or that automatically makes 4S the winner. Try your hardest to do things you enjoy despite the 4S. Every time you accomplish escaping a situation you normally wouldn't do because of 4S, that builds confidence and helps you in the next situation. Best wishes!
