Guest guest
Hello all! My name is , and I've just recently learned of 4S. I actually self diagnosed myself last night after my husband said as I was filing my nails, " If I were doing that, you'd go nuts. " Since the laptop was open (and I knew he was right), I decided to start searching. It led me here, and I am so grateful to know I am not alone! I wouldn't say this is debilitating to me. But I definitely have my moments. Eating noises bother me the most. Ice crunching is the worst right now. Any crunching, really, but ice seems loudest. When I don't feel like I can ask someone to stop, or I have no control whatsoever, it gets increasingly worse. I've tried NOT asking my husband to stop chewing ice, only to feel like I was going to crawl out of my skin, scream, or throw up. I've often wonder if the eating noises bothering me " came from " having it drilled into my head to " chew with your mouth closed. " I remember that message from my step-mom when we were younger, and I feel I became very aware of people smacking their lips...which led to other noises, etc. Do you think that's a possible cause? I mean, maybe I was already predisposed because my siblings don't have 4S, but could that have 'done it' for me?! I look forward to learning more! Guest guest
Hello , Welcome J I too know exactly what you mean with crunching, I go crazy as well. There seems to be a lot of energy inside this group about moving forward and finding that cure cause and anyway to help each other out, This place has been a savour for my sanity J so hopefully it will help you too. I always remember the chew with your mouth closed talk, but I am a twin and have always been around my brother growing up, he too was subject to the same lectures as me, but does not have 4S in fact, he still chews at times with his mouth open which drives me insane J I think and i am only guessing here, but, if it is genetic ( I believe my grandfather had it and my uncle has it both on my fathers side) something inside us is predisposition to having the condition and a trigger sets us off. No idea what that is though, my girlfriend also has 4s ( which I have only recently learnt) and she too developed the conidition around the same time as me, around 13-14. Her sister also seems to have a very minor degree of this condition (hates scratching and smacking lips but doesn’t mind crunching) but the rest of her family does not seem bothered at all.... Maybe if we all compiled some information on when we first started noticing the irritation by sounds, we might be able to find a link? Would everyone be comfortable with this? I Know information is floating on the board somewhere but if we were to compile it maybe, we might be able to give others who are looking into this condition more insight??? I hope you find hope and help here Rich From: Soundsensitivity [mailto:Soundsensitivity ] On Behalf Of andrealeigh4 Sent: Monday, 24 November 2008 10:37 AM To: Soundsensitivity Subject: New Here & Jumping right in Hello all! Guest guest
Hi Rich,For me it was the same age...around puberty 12-13. Talk about puberty being rough just on it's own!andraTo: Soundsensitivity Sent: Monday, November 24, 2008 11:21:59 AMSubject: RE: New Here & Jumping right in Hello , Welcome J I too know exactly what you mean with crunching, I go crazy as well.
