Guest guest
I specifically want to know... 1. Did you take your kids off of other therapies during this time. (speech, ot, etc.) 2. What types of improvements did you see and can fully attribute to MAPS? Thanks Bernie so much for your willingness to share. Tami Re: Links on videos about MAPS Bernie, Yes, if you have time, that would be great. Guest guest
I started MAPS with my son, , in March of 2006. At that time he was 3.5 years old. We did a 6 month MAPS program and WE STOPPED ALL THERAPY. Prior to MAPS he was in an intensive ABA program (30-35 hours a week), and he also had speech and OT. was moderately affected when he was diagnosed at 25 months old. He did respond well to his ABA program and biomed interventions which we also started at 26 months old. I lent my MAPS binder to another mom so this is based on what I remember: When started MAPS he could talk but his speech was not spontaneous. He could answer many of the questions he had learned in his ABA program and had a huge vocabulary but he did not converse and did not ask questions. Within a month of starting MAPS he started asking questions. Our goals in MAPS were to cut back on tantrums ( he was having 5-6 per day), to play with other children ( he still only played by himself), to have a conversation and to sleep through the night. did meet most of his goals by the end of the 6 month period. He was having a few tantrums per week, he played with his sisters and became interested in other kids, he would ask questions and have a short conversation. I did not stop biomed interventions while doing MAPS so it is hard to say 100% what lead to the improvement. At the end of the first 6 month period I would have continued with another 6 month session but Claudie thought it would be best to start focusing on my youngest child, . She was almost 2 and had severe digestive issues. She had chronic loose BM, reflux, no language, and sensory issues. She had always been GF/CF and she also had been SCD for 6 months. During s 6 months on MAPS she went from no language to a child with age appropriate language. Her digestive issues improved noticably. I also started the LOD diet with her during this time and after 6 months of MAPS she could eat some medium oxalate foods. While we were focusing on with MAPS, did a maintenance program of MAPS and had no regression. Claudie will only do a MAPS program for one child in a family at a time. While was on his maintenance program we did 6 months of RDI and started Dr. Yasko's protocol and by the time he was 4.5 he could pass for an NT child some of the time. I am considering doing 6 more months of MAPS with each child in the future but we are out of $. MAPS was perfect for us because I was looking for a way that I could work with my kids at home and stop the therapy life. I learned a lot of things that I still use daily, most importantly how to keep my home peaceful and reduce a lot of stress for my kids and myself. Claudie truly respects each child and she believes that a child can improve at any age. This helped me a lot because I know I can do MAPS again with my kids and I don't feel the huge pressure to have them 100% well by age 5. Hope this helps. I'm happy to answer any other questions or clarify if this was unclear. Bernie
