When I get nasty, the first thing my friend will say to me is, " Do we need to get you some food? " Oh, and when I am craving sugar, I will enlist everyone around to help me get a hit (lest they face my wrath). Sugar free for a month, and I don't crave it at all! But now I feel true deep hunger (grumble, grumble)! However, I have been thinking about this: I must get 10+ servings of veggies a day, maybe even more. On any given day I eat veggies at every meal, especially as I eat low carb and pad out my food with veggies. I got to thinking how 1000 years ago, no one was really eating 60 ounces of veggies a day!!! I calculate my calories, carbs and so on, and I am getting 25-30 grams of fiber a day. Am I taxing my digestive system? Mimi _________________________________________________________

Takes a lot of energy. Of course, cooking the vegetables makes them easier to digest but the cellulose is still there. I remember reading in the newspaper about 6-8 months ago that a " scientific " study found (I'm paraphrasing here) that fiber wasn't really all that necessary and had little effect on conditions such as colon cancer. They were sort of reversing popular thinking on the need for fiber for good health. This is in keeping with another diet espoused by Aajonus Vonderplanitz. Without going into too many details, we juice the vegetables instead of eating them whole. This gets around the cellulose thing and also helps to vastly increase the ingestion of the nutrients and minerals, etc., from the vegetables. We get a " high " from having 6-8 ounces about 4-5 times a day between meals. The choice of vegetables is important - it is usually celery (70%), parsley (15%) and zucchini or cucumber (15%) with slight variations on that theme. This is, obviously, a remedial use of the juice for deep healing purposes. That much juice is probably not necessary in a very healthy individual. -=mark=-
Guest guest
Hello Mimi Adelle did some research about 50 years ago and she found that if you start with a breakfast that has fat, protein and carbos, like a bowl of cereal with whole milk and some meat perhaps, you will have a feeling of well being way into the afternoon. It works for my friends and I at work. One fellow worker is a purist vegan and he is one cranky individual, we feel like we are on vacation when he is not around. I think the low-fat (high carbo) diet was made up by the World Health Organization because it promotes better use of farmland and therefore cheaper food for the third world but it seems to be unhealthy for those that adopt it. Guest guest
Hiya! Qualified by the fact that I became a low-carber because that was the only way of eating that made me feel healthy and got my insulin very stable (and yes, I tried every diet ever conceived, but I was brainwashed by the low fat people, so it took me a while to get here!)... Even before that, when I was a low-fat person, protein and fat were the best things for me, and the lower the carbs the better. in the morning. A carb loaded breakfast, no matter how much fat and protein, guraranteed cravings all day. That said, fat has gone from being 15% of my diet or less to over 65%, bolstered with some protein and more veggies than you can imagine! Who knew how yummy coconut oil and butter were! Thank you everyone for comments on the fiber. My grand conclusion is that I am by no means eating too much fiber compared to people 100,000 years ago, or even native people today. But I will eat things like cabbage and broccoli cooked. Sorry if this is all obvious, am a broke student, but got a nice Amazon gift certificate to buy the book and it arrives today! >I think the low-fat (high carbo) diet was made up by the World Health >Organization because it promotes better use of farmland and therefore >cheaper food for the third world but it seems to be unhealthy for >those that adopt it. Agreed! Mimi _________________________________________________________
