Subject: Sensory Integration Disorder (Sensory

Processing Disorder)

Hello,

I realize that everyone has probably tried everything to resolve this

disorder, however, I thought I would share some info that has seemed

to help my son (9 years old). We have already tried the omega's,

vitamins, etc. and nothing has helped. He is currently on Prozac for

depression, but it doesn't help the anger with the eating/crunching

noises. I decided to try a physical therapist who is certified in

Sensory Integration. My son has been going to the therapist for about

a month(once a week), and we actually had a dinner as a family for

the first time in about a year. He was diagnosed with Sensory

Defensiveness, which has characteristics of:

Reactivity to texture sensation(clothes,hair,food), Gravitational

insecurity, Challenges with transitions and changes in routine,

attention issues, praxis issues, poor filtering(auditory and/or

visual distractibility), poor attention in complex auditory

environments, auditory defensiveness.

How it works is that the therapist creates a THerapeutic Listening

Program. By using specific headphones that have been modified

specifically for this application,(Vital Sounds, LLC-Sennheiser 500-A

headphones-they sell for $140.00)he listens to cd's to help " rewire "

the brain. The CD's have also been modified.

This is a 12 week session, but so far, I " think " it might work.I hate

to get my hopes or anyone else's hopes up, because it is such a let

down if it doesn't work. Anyhow, if anyone is interested, the place

where they order the cd's are Vital Sounds, LLC - P.O.Box 46344,

Madison, WI 53744 (608)278-9330.

On a side note, after my son listens to the cd (1 per week, 1/2 hour

twice a day), he is so upbeat and happy. Hope this helps.

Robyn
