Guest guest
I just got back from 2 weeks in CostaRica, so today, my perspective is: You can only " Make the Best of Chronic Illness in Terms of Your Personal Growth " if you are lucky enough to live some where which affords you a meaningfull future.. Which of course we all do, living in Europe the USA the UK, Japan, and other developed first world countries. OK- We being the fortunate ones amongst the worlds people, and speaking for myself.. Type As can be productive.. I'm not type A anymore (recently reformed type A- hopefully down to a B+) - but I am still obsessive (but not compulsive) - and have always used that trait as an advantage in my job and personal health. But, I think the trait we all have more in common is personal risk- taking.. each one of us on this list are willing to take the risks (and responsibilities that go with that choice) we need to to improve our condition. That's not really Zen-like in my book Barb > > > > A bit of red rag for Nelly and others. Guest guest
OK Then Yes- I agree (Maybe I should have read more carefully). Then, I am quite zen-like in regards to being able to separate myself (emotionally) from my illness and look at it objectively to decide what I want to do and what course I want to take. I've been able to do that since I was VERY young-- as I was born with some internal organ anomolies and was quite sick till 8 years old when exploratory surgery sort of fixed it.. My relationship with Dr.s is business-like. And MOST Dr.s I treat more like High-Level Technicians..having been around more of the PHD (scientific research) types - it's rubbed off on me that a clinician really just opperates on IF statements (i.e. IF this happens- do this... IF THAT happens do that).. Most of them aren't thinkers. So if your malady doesn't fit neatly in some box.. most are at a loss. (and the patient can be screwed).
