Guest guest
Thanks for posting this, Penny. Who ever wrote it was very thorough. And must have more energy than I do! I could not have written that much. I have a question about Minocycline. I have seen a couple of comments about the side effects mentioned here before. ly, since I was not on it and had never been on it, I skimmed over the info. But now I am about to start it with Ceftin and Flagyl. So my interest is peaked. Would you mind pointing me to messages here that talk about Mino. Or sites that address this? I will be taking it for Lyme treatment. Would appreciate any help you can offer. Best,
Guest guest
Hi , Put the word "minocycline" in the "infection and inflammation" group search engine and you should get a lot of responses. Just remember to keep hitting "next" for more results as it only searches something like 100 posts at a time. Minocycline can be a very effective antibiotic. However it is also known to cause some pretty serious side effects in some people (which I think is possibily more common amongst pwc than the average, healthy population). You can find these side effects listed in the product insert, or do a search on-line and you'll get the rundown. Some of the worst side effects are pseudotumor cerebri (aka intercranial hypertension), which is basically inflammation or increased pressure on the brain. This can cause some pretty scary side effects leading to blindness and even death in the worst cases (it's kind of like a drug induced meningitis). Another side effect is "minocycline induced lupus", which fortunately goes away once the medication is stopped. Minocycline can also have a negative impact on the thyroid, and that can also be very dangerous if ignored. Most people don't experience these side effects. The majority of my friends, as well as my daughter, felt a lot better and were helped by minocycline. And that's great. But you need to be aware of the potential for negative side effects. I have a huge concern with mino, or any of these drugs, when side effects get brushed off as "herx" (or die-off). Yes, there will probably be some die-off which releases toxins into your system which can make you feel kind of crummy for a little while. But if that happens, it should be a short term effect, it shouldn't go on and on and on. In my own case, I almost immediately feel better when I take the right antibiotic. It's like when you have an ear infection or strep throat and how quickly you start feeling better once you've taken the proper medication. On minocycline, however, I experienced really bad side effects. I felt about the worst I've ever felt with a severe headache followed by a thryoid storm which landed me in the ER. Some of these more experimental protocols ignore the fact that bad side effects are a real possibility and need to be taken seriously and not brushed off as "herx". If you have any negative side effects, you should contact your doctor right away and/or stop taking the med. You will most likely be fine on mino. I hope you get very good results from your new drug regimen. Please keep us posted. penny From: kgg12003 <kgenest@...>Subject: [infections] Minocycline. Guest guest
Thank you, Penny for your response. I believe that at some point in the recent past I did a search on Mino here but did not get much. Perhaps I did not go to the next "100". But I will.
