What is it about ear plugs?

I have a lot to learn about all this. I see people commenting that

earplugs will only make it worse? Why is this? Ear plugs are

essentials, and I have them in strategic locations all over the house,

in the car, in my purse, gym bag and school bags. But the last thing I

want to do is make it worse. How could ear plugs negatively effect me?

When you wear ear plugs your ears and brain work even harder to hear

and then when you take them out it is like someone turned up the volume

on the world.

However, I think they can be very helpful when used with a little

discretion.

For example, I sleep alone in a quiet room. I run a white noise maker

so quietly that I don't even hear it until I lay down to sleep.

(Sometimes I leave it running all day because I don't notice it).

Anyway, in the morning, my husband gets up earlier than I do. (he of

course sleeps in a different room - they don't call it 4s for nothing)

When he gets up he is very loud pounding around the house and wakes me

up. I put my earplugs in and go back to sleep. Sometimes I turn up the

noisemaker also.

I think as long as you use them stragically they are ok. Put them in

during dinner, take them out afterwards, etc...

If you can't sleep without them, try a white noise maker turned up loud

and see if you can tolerate that. That way your ears are exposed to

noise all night long so they are not super sensitive in the morning.

I think people run into problems when they wear them all the time.

There ears become even more sensitive and then they need them even

more. Catch 22.

But I definitly would not just toss them. :-)
