Guest guest
Ken, I am totally convinced that some people are indeed sensitive to EMFs. I've owned a Gaussmeter for more than 12 years. When I bought it, I had attended several seminars and read most of the health studies done at that time. I never heard or read anything about respiratory symptoms -- only weak associations with (from memory) leukemia, brain cancer, male breast cancer, endocrine system (melatonin). I have also encountered in my work a teacher in a computer classroom who became sensitized to chemicals from 25 new computers and no ventilation in the room. She developed severe respiratory problems. I'd bet that the respiratory problems described in the subject article had nothing to do with the EMFs. High temperatures will result in greater off-gassing of VOCs from wire insulation and other plastics in the electronic equipment. Where in the health studies you referenced is there anything about EMFs or RFs causing respiratory symptoms? That health info would be very important to know about, if it exists. Steve Temes Steve, You have always been known to have a quick eye and here you do notice a good question. May I suggest you go back to the website and review the otrher 12 papers including the WHO health standards and the catalog of known biological/medical effects from EMF. There is also a testimonial from a school health official you may find helpful. Guest guest
Ken Although I check EMF conditions in all of the houses I investigate, I would suggest that the ground loop that is likely contributing to the problem should have been corrected rather than use filters that sop up the 'noise' from the combination of the poor wiring and noisy equipment (schools often buy by price alone). For years CMHC had a small research effort on EMF pollution and has several research reports on the subject. Some of my clients have felt much better after they dealt with high EMF fields, especially in bedrooms; sometimes it is simply a matter of moving or replacing a cheap clock radio. Jim H. Guest guest
Jim, Do you have any references on exactly what kind of electromagnetic fields and at what kind of intensity have been shown (or even, are suspected) to effect people? I know from personal experience when out hiking around a year ago that EMF in some places is very high. Carbon fiber is used in photo tripods because its both lightweight and strong. I am guessing that it is a resistive conductor and in a strong alternating magnetic field it may be developing an induced current - and then my hand is bridging the induced current in a way that would not be feelable with either a better conductor or an insulator. That is my only explanation for what I felt that day.. We were near some high tension wires, and the feelable aspect seemed to drop off very quickly as we moved away. That night I did some Googling and evidently these high tension wires emit so much magnetic energy that they make flourescent light tubes flicker. (High level RF can do that too, especially on foggy days..) There is an artist in England who creates art installations underneath high tension wires with flourescent tubes. There are videos on the net that show them, imagine grids of hundreds of flourescent tubes, arranged sort of like gravestones in a cemetery, flickering visibly.. Its very strange, because normally, we can't (or don't want to!) visualize this energy ! Glad I don't live or work near them!
