Guest guest
Hi Rich, These are two very awesome changes. I never understood why the multi had folic acid - the reasons you mention make sense. I have actually never had my son or myself on the multi as I could never afford the shipping from Maine. I have us both on Klaire Labs Vita Spectrum which has no iron, no copper, little B6 and only folate (5 MTHF). I feel great on it (2 capsules - while my son is at 4 capsules) I have come to a nice, stable place that I am reluctant to push the detox with further phases of the protocol! Thanks for keeping us updated. Marti P.S. I will try to update the files on this forum as well as CFS_Yasko (if it hasn't already been done). > > Hi,all. > > As of today, I am suggesting a revised form of the Simplified Treatment Approach for lifting the partial methylation cycle block i ME/CFS. Guest guest
Hi Rich, I hope to finally try methylation at some point, after years of watching you post it and finding it difficult to organize but wanting to try it. One question: On 2011-03-30, rvankonynen <richvank@...> wrote: > The changes involve using liquid supplements where possible, and a capsule > rather than a tablet, so that dosages can be divided more easily. As many don't have physicians (including many bedridden and housebound) or cannot access them frequently, and many who do do not have well-informed or M.E.-aware physicians, a sense of the severity and permanence of those adverse effects would be great to obtain. Is there a good concise updated source? Thanks as always for studying neuroimmune diseases and sticking with it. BTW, what's your connection to the disease, if I may ask? I don't recall your bio ATM and a quick search didn't find it. -- The Kafka Pandemic: http://thekafkapandemic.blogspot.com/2010/12/welcome-to-kafka-pandemic-two-force\ s_9182.html I support the Whittemore- Institute (WPI) === I want to see the original (pre-hold) Lo et al. 2010 NIH/FDA/Harvard MRV paper. Guest guest
Hi, . You are certainly welcome for whatever I have been able to do that is helpful. I think that both the tablets and the capsules are fine, but the tablets have been difficult for people to split, and I think the capsules will be easier to deal with. I wasn't able to find a liquid form of folinic acid, so that's why the folinic acid capsules are part of this revised protocol. I began working on ME/CFS 15 years ago, when a family friend developed CFS. I learned on the internet, especially in this group, how many people have this disorder, and I became motivated to try to help, as well as becoming " hooked " on the scientific problem involved in trying to understand this disorder. Here is a summary of the serious adverse effects that have been reported to me: 1. One person had had a history of severe pesticide exposure and also autonomous multi-nodular goiter, which she described as follows: " Gradually the right lobe grew to over 4 cm x 4cm, and had to have right lobe out. . . This same surgeon made the decision to leave the left lobe in, as I had always had trouble with thyroid med back then too. So, they restarted my Synthroid and I stayed on that for [a] few more years. I ALWAYS had shortness of breath and became VERY tachycardic upon ANY activity. . . " This person started the simplified treatment approach on March 21, 2007 (actually using higher dosages than suggested for FolaPro and Intrinsi/B12/folate). On May 19, she went to an emergency room with tachycardia, chest pain, trouble breathing, trouble sleeping, elevated blood pressure and fever of 100.7 F. She was admitted to the hospital and released the next day. No evidence was found for heart attack. This person later reported the following: " I followed up with my PCP and had CT scan of neck and chest and my goiter is causing tracheal compression, again, and breathing is VERY hard. . . My area hospitals can't do this surgery because my goiter grows substernal, deep in my chest. " This person has expressed a desire to continue the simplified treatment approach, but is currently exploring the possibility of first having additional surgery on the multinodular goiter. 2. A second person had a history of lung problems due to both carbon monoxide exposure and exposure to molds, as well as heart-related symptoms. She started part of the simplified treatment approach on May 27, 2007. After having been nearly homebound for ten years, she was able to begin riding a bicycle. However, in early July, 2007, she went to an emergency room twice with severe breathing problems (shortness of breath), a fever of 99.8 to 100.1 F. that eventually lasted for sixteen days, and severe chest and left arm pain. No evidence was found for heart attack. She was diagnosed with an enlarged left atrium and diastolic dysfunction. She has currently discontinued the simplified treatment approach and is under the care of cardiologists. 3. A third person had a history of autoimmune disease, including Sjogren's syndrome. After her fourth dosage of combined FolaPro and Intrinsi/B12/folate, she experienced " a moderately severe autoimmune flare, with numerous joint and soft tissue issues, fatigue, pain, etc. " She also experienced a severe flare of Sjogren's syndrome, with " very dry mouth, dry eyes, and severe eye pain. " Six days after discontinuing the supplements, she had a thorough ophthalmology workup and was diagnosed with autoimmune scleritis. She has been given topical steroids and has reported that her eyes are greatly improved. 4. At least two persons experienced a temporary termination of peristalsis of the gut and consequent constipation after beginning the simplified treatment approach. In these two cases, induction of diarrhea cleared material from the gut, but did not restore the peristalsis. In both cases, peristalsis restarted twelve days after terminating the folate-containing supplements. One of these persons had a history of treatment with psychotropic drugs, including Klonopin. About 18 hours after starting to get relief from the constipation, she became very sick, with " vomiting, vise-like headache, and shaking. " She had many bowel movements over a ten-hour period, and then began to feel better. The other had a history of autoimmune diseases, including Sjogren's syndrome and Autoimmune Ovaritis, as well as diastolic dysfunction. Guest guest
Hi Rich just thought I would let you know that my toxicity levels have reduced significantly. I am the one that had the stool donor treatment here in Australia and also found significant improvement by going on a low oxalate diet with magnesium citrate and calcium citrate at meals to bind the oxalates in my diet. Well I have just seen my hormone specialist who has also been monitoring my liver toxicity levels. These treatments/approaches together with the methylation supplements have returned my toxic liver results to normal and my hormone stress levels are going back to normal. Also looking like I can get of thyroid hormones as well. I will do another methylation panel soon, but last night given the results I have just received I decided to have a glass of wine - something I haven't done for near on 20 years because I just couldn't tolerate any alcohol - no ill effects at all - lovely drop too. another quality of life treat I can now add back to my life. My energy is normal, I haven't stopped going, no relapses, late nights, early mornings (every morning I now get up at 6am) interstate trips, rushing to and from my new part time job, brisk walking every day for at least 40 minutes and about to take on a personal trainer to get me strong again. I urge you to look at the Austism Research Institutes' Austism Oxalate Project headed by Owen. Also this site http://www.lowoxalate.info/ that Owen set up. Dietary oxalates could be contributing a significant amount of toxins to those that have an altered gut permeability ie. anyone with cfs, fibromyalgia and autism. Learning about oxalates certainly has turned my life around and I sincerely wish that everyone with these chronic debilitating illness can achieve the success I have had. > > Hi,all. > > As of today, I am suggesting a revised form of the Simplified Treatment Approach for lifting the partial methylation cycle block i ME/CFS. Guest guest
That is exciting news. Sounds like you are really in the pink. I too started the LOD diet and joined Owens group. I have been on it about 2 mos and on the cal & mag citrate for 2 weeks. My energy level has been going up, and a life long battle with constipation is over since going LOD and adding just these 2 supplements. Also a life long severe allergy to animals(talkin 45 yrs worth) is gone after 5 mos on LDN. I have been following Rich and his work on several forums with the hope that someday I will be able to afford the Methylation Panel test......... if they keep uncovering more stuff about CFS, and it becomes more of a " mainstream " illness, and they see how much some folks are clearly helped by Rich's protocol, maybe my medicare will cover it! Guest guest
Thank you Delores, yes I feel I really am in the pink and loving it. Well done on working out about oxalates. Have you had the urine pyrrole test? If you have this genetic condition then it makes you deficient in zinc and B6 and if you are deficient in B6 then your liver makes a lot of oxalates. My tests come back negative so it appears that I only have trouble because of dietary oxalates coupled with a leaky gut, I think I am lucky. I am also on LDN not sure if that has helped my cfs but keeping my fingers crossed it is stopping any tumour growth as I have had one scare when a 3cm pre cancer growth was found in my bowel, but what is niggling at me is high bad oestrogen which causes breast cancer. > > That is exciting news. Guest guest
Hi, . This is great to hear! I hope more people will take a look at their oxalate levels. It sounds like the low-oxalate diet can really pay off if oxalate is running high. The Great Plains urine organic acid panel includes oxalate.
