Guest guest
Using headphones for a portable tape player for him may help. Distractional events could also keep him interested. Does the behavior exhibit itself when he's bored? If so, see what else can occupy him then.goodluck.mas.
Guest guest
One of our kids hums whenever we examine him. For him it is definitely soothing and his way of handling an anxiety provoking experience. As he has gotten better his humming has dramatically decreased! Guest guest
Oh yes. We used to have that. It was a stim behavior and we don't see it anymore unless she is getting sick or allergies are acting up. Inflammation -Jen From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Subject: Humming Date: Monday, February 21, 2011, 8:42 AM  Does anyone have a 'hummer' child? Our son hums all the time - same tunes, constantly. Usually when his stomach is bothering him..
Guest guest
We have a five year old who is always humming, singing, or repeating some type of show. When you talk to him, he can respond appropriately and his functional speech sounds pretty normal, but when you're not engaging him, he always has something going. I feel bad for him because either my husband and I or our other two sons are always saying- , turn off the show! Then, he'll look startled and say- oh, OK- then a minute later he's back to one of the three. My husband and I are always wondering if there is a medication that can stop this or is this just something that will get better as he gets better. I'm the one who has been posting about Valtrex die off and of course my nerves are shot because the constant humming/ singing is much worse during any type of die off or sickness and we are 58 days into Valtrex and not out of the woods yet. The other thing he is constantly doing is writing words in the air with his fingers- has anyone else had a child that did that? Glad we have this group for encouragement and Sloan- that was a great post to read and Marcia- looking forward to your book! Colleen
Guest guest
My son does all that. But he did it before vlatrex and still does it after valtrex. We stopped valtrex after 50 days. > > We have a five year old who is always humming, singing, or repeating some type of show. Guest guest
Hi Colleen, Thats so interesting. My son doesn't hum, but he does write words in the air with his finger. It isn't all the time But he will be talking about something and say " ... six " and then spell six out in the air. And then go about the rest of his sentence normally. At first I really questioned him, but then as I thought about it I think it is that he is just learning so much but still a visual thinker (as am I) and he just needs to do that to make sure he can spell the word correctly. I think this is something that will go away as they learn to visualize things in thei head without pretending to write it. He used to says stuff from shows quite often and I banned him from doing it. He pretty much stopped and now he only does it on purpose to annoy me! > > We have a five year old who is always humming, singing, or repeating some type of show.
