This meeting is one in an ongoing series of the ASTM Conferences, and provides an informal forum for cutting-edge? analysis and discussion of controversial issues. Conference emphasis will be on practical, science-based field applications. Presentation of case studies should include implications for general protocol development. The initial two days will consider IAQ complaints with a focus on investigation strategies (especially multi-disciplinary approaches), screening of health complaints, engineering evaluation, non-IAQ factors, hypothesis testing/establishing causation, effective response measures and risk communication. The final two days will focus on development of standard mold protocols considering moisture dynamics, occupant sensitivity, use, misuse and interpretation of microbial testing, response options and verification. Critiques of existing guidelines, discussion of litigation methodology and new technologies are also welcome. Roundtable discussions will encourage audience participation and consider issues subject to current professional disagreement. These sessions will also prioritize research needs and suggest new consensus standards for development by ASTM Committee D22. This conference will be of interest to both investigators (e.g., hygienists, engineers, physicians, public health officials) and stakeholders (e.g., building owners and managers, insurance industry, public interest groups). A summary of the proceedings will be published and will include individual presentations at the discretion of the author. Preliminary abstracts or outlines of proposed presentations should be submitted by Wednesday, October 15, 2008 to Ed Light, CIH (elight@... ). ----Philip P.
