Guest guest
I'm pregnant and would like to cut my carbs to minimum required during pregnancy. Does anyone know what that number is? How low is acceptable for pregnancy. In NT, Sally notes that Eskimo pregnant and breastfeeding moms are in ketosis with no ill effects, but I'm not willing to go into ketosis, even though I believe it's O.K. There are just too many mainstream warnings against it during pregnancy, and I'm not eating the raw meat diet that the eskimos do. Having said that, I am in carb-craving mode, gaining too much weight, i'm lethargic, achy, not focused, etc. I'm eating all NT foods, but the carbs (mainly from fruit and ezekial bread) are just getting to me. And yes, I'm eating plenty of " good " fat and protein - raw dairy, eggs, grass-fed everything etc. So I want to cut carbs to minimum necessary for pregnancy without harming my baby, but to a point where I feel good again. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks Dana
Guest guest
Wolfgang Lutz recommends about 72 grams of carbs a day, even during pregnancy. Lower carb diets have been shown to be helpful for gestational insulin resistance. You'll only go into ketosis if you go below 40 gms of carbs a day. You may want to get his book, " Life Without Bread, " publishwed by Keats.
