I have tried everything to get my intestines to "wake up" and perform properly. My gut is so dead that I cannot even pass gas. As soon as I deliver in March, I am going to try to find a motility specialist. I do not have the typical constipation. I will go for days or weeks without a bowel movement unless I take a laxative. The problem exists higher up in the intestines, and never even descends into the lower colon. No type of colonic cleansing helps, only traps the water. I think that there are probably many who are suffering not from constipation per se, but from a lack of intestinal motility. This is going to be my quest to find a specialist in the field of motility. Thanks CW littlelief wrote: Marg, You mentioned in one message something about not seeing the evidencethat it's *not* safe, but can you really be convinced that there isevidence that it *is* safe? Why take the chance if there arealternatives that are more natural? Also, have you tried figuring out what the underlying cause of yourconstipation is? A conventional medical doctor is likely not going tohelp you out on this and will likely only be interested in prescribinga drug (e.g., Miralax) to relieve the constipation. IMO, it is moreimportant to figure out what's causing you to be constipated in thefirst place. As most of the parents here can

probably attest, it's often a hugepuzzle trying to get to the heart of the problem, but I can bet that alot of people can offer advice/suggestions. Maybe it is as simple as not getting enough of a particularnutrient(s). Maybe it's more complex (food 'allergy'/sensitivity, gutflora dysbiosis (yeast or other non-friendly flora), etc., etc.). Maybe it's something physical (e.g., motility). Have you tried eliminating any potentially problematic foods (i.e.,gluten and/or casein containing foods)? By keeping a thorough fooddiary for a while and keeping track of your bm's at the same time, youmight find that a certain food(s) correlate to the constipation. Alternatively, you could try an "elimination diet" (google forguidelines) - if you eat the very simple, limited diet (usuallyturkey, rice, and a few specific veggies/fruits) for a short period oftime and see if you get improvement. If so, then you add back in

onefood every couple of days and keep a close eye on the symptoms.best, > > According to what I've read, it is written that this COULD > cause fatalities if certain bacteria is in the gut, I don't think > the people handing this out, know this.............nor are they > checking first................> > > > > > > > > > > > ---------------------------------> > Never miss a thing. This is also the case for my son. Motility, his seems to be upper mainly also! Not able to pass gas either. He gets several hours of belly/back rubs a day. I sometimes worry about those with withholding thoughts with there children. I think some arent withholding and it is motility. But not with all, Im sure some kids do hold, but I think our body has limits with that! Please let me know what you learn and if a specialist helps. I am curious, do you find it is worse during illnesses? Seems viruses with my son just causes his problem to be a nightmare. Typically viruses cause loose stools, but not with my son. Its as though his tract just stops or something! I cant figure it out yet! His gastro put him on a med to induce intestinal contractions and stomach dumping. Seem to be working great, no miralax for a couple of months, then he gets a virus and the whole mess starts again even on the med! What are some things that seem to give you relief, make worse, etc. such as

foods, things to make feel better etc. My son is non verbal and any info on motility issues would be very appreciated. My sons nightmare with this started the very night of a vaccine reaction. Constipation started with earlier vacs, specifically the DTaP it seems! Well I hope the best for you!! Jennie wrote: I have tried everything to get my intestines to "wake up" and perform properly. Hi! I am curious if your daughter has been to gastro? Ped isnt as knowledgable on gi issues! We have used aloe vera juice with great success. Occaissionally seems not to work, but usually does! What brand did you use? Some aloe is really strong tasting! We find the wallmart brand is the best so far as far as taste and % whole! I noticed they also carry a flavored with fruit aloe juice now. I didnt buy beings it didnt say how much is aloe! We mix our sons write into his food. He is on pureeds. As mild tasting as the wallmart brand is it can easily be disguised in juice! Besides it being good for constipation, it is loaded with vitamins/minerals etc and also thought to help deture viruses. A natural anti inflammatory. We use instead of tylenol etc if we have enough on hand. Was your daughter born in a hospital? I am asking because many mothers dont realize that hospitals automatically give newborn vacs befor leaving. As far as knowing about the motility issues, our

gastro said it would involve possibly a weeks hospital stay for our son. Many rounds of tests and even then a trip to california to some university!! Our son has been in hospital enough during his life and we hope to avoid that one. So we are using a new med for contractions/stomach dumping. Over all has worked until recently when he became ill. Illness seems to mess things up for him! Causes of our kids constipation?? I have gone over this a million times in my head as Im sure most here have!! From vacs, our drinking water, lack of enzymes in our food, chemicals all around us etc. I just know it was pretty obvious with our son that vacs caused most of his medical problems. Possibly viral from them or toxins, I think both!! Jennie wrote: Jennie,I think you are hitting on a concern of mine. I am treating my dd foryeast (just in case it is her problem) but I am not 100% certain thisis her solution. According to her ped she has been withholding and hasa stretched colon. Well this all started when I started giving hersolids at 4 1/2 mos. It didn't really matter what it was she would notbe able to poop. I can see where she started withholding after thepoop got to elephant size!!! But what cause the constapation to beginwith is my question. I do have concerns that she has motility issues. One thing that is possibly related is that she had reflux quite a bitas an infant even when 100% breast fed. I read that this can be causedby motility

too. Now she still has a very sinsitive gag reflex. Justa note: she has not been vaccinated. So my questions are: Is thereany way that *I* can figure out if it is motility without a doctor?(Money is a HUGE factor) Also I read that Aloe increases motility.Have you or the new poster tried Aloe? If so did it help? I tried toget my daughter to take it in juice when she was younger but shewouldn't. I am willing to try again. Oh btw, my dd's colon is nolonger stretched like the doc seems to insist. We have worked hard atgetting it to shrink and she has long skinny poops, not hugegrapefruit sized ones any longer. And she is not withholding either. She is pushing!! with no results unless given some aid.Susie ~>> This is also the case for my son.
