Guest guest
Kathy, Stacie...beautifully, put. ((((((hugs))))))) e kathys letter This letter is on behalf of the families of Children with Special Needs. This letter is to “Teach” you, as the new educators, the impact that you have on us, the families. You have all gone the extra mile. You have chosen work in a field that make the boundaries of education endless! As parents we are grateful that you would go on this journey with us. We are the ones who have given birth, visualize the impossibilities, be at the doctors, be at the hospital for days at a time, hide from reality because it’s difficult to face it, use our children as crutches to NOT do what needs to be done and live with the choices, good and bad, that we made to keep our children at home. Then have to watch that impact that that choice has made on our families lives. The love and anger that you feel towards your decision and yes, your child, can torment you till you can’t breathe!! The worst of it all is to arrangements to bury your child. When your child is sitting next to you… living. When you finally let your baby go to school and you feel some of the stress taken away, it almost seems surreal. You as the teacher become our savior… When even God couldn’t save our children or ourselves from the endless struggle of daily living. You are the one that seems to make everything bearable again, even if it’s just a few moments out of the day. You are the ones that are educated. You have the knowledge and skills to teach our children and make our lives easier. You take the pressure off our shoulder. You as teachers, take us where we just can’t go. You give us HOPE. As a mother of a seventeen year old, I can say I couldn’t of made it without the ENTIRE staff at Hope D. Wall in Aurora, I.L. From the Kitchen, Janitorial, Aides ( Bulie) Nursing ( Vicky H.) PT ( Amy J. who taught my daughter to walk at seven), OT, Speech, Vision, Social Workers, Secretaries, ( M.) Teachers ( Kim W, Kathy G, and Terry C.) and the many Principals… ( Krista M and our newest Ms. Doris) to back me up!! The line between teacher and parent is already crossed. You become part of our family. No written rules or regulation can change that fact. Some of you seem like Sisters or Brothers or distant cousins. It is encouraged by the genuine love and dedication that you give our children. Most of the time it is a positive experience for all… You as the educators, become our respite workers ( because we don’t trust anyone else), you send home cards, notes, phone numbers and email address’… you volunteer your time when the child is in the hospital so we can have a break. You say prayers and keep us in tour thoughts… You buy birthday gifts and come to parties… You and us become WE!! It always starts out with the best of intentions and most of the time the bond that is formed is amazing. The genuine concern for child and family is something that can not be expressed. To me it’s like a warm breeze on a cold day I am writing this to “Teach” you that working in this field is not a JOB!! It is an honor. You made a choice to be a part of something special. Everyone who is just starting out wants to make an impact. You have already… Just to make the decision to work with our kids. Those of us that have been working here for a while knows that. Your word is bond. Do not tell us that you can you can do something when you don’t know you can ( Through your job description. ) Do not give us your numbers and say to call anytime and then take your number away… When you do these things and don’t follow through you take away some of the stability, that we, as the parents, desperately need. You have made a choice to become part of our world.. The world of uncertainty… If you are uncertain about something, say it! Things happen, good intentions don’t turn out the way you want and that is okay. Be very clear on you choices and statements. If you value the career path that you have chosen, understand what I have written. Know that sometimes you are more than just a teacher. It is an honorable choice that you have made, but it’s even more honorable when you realize that you can’t commit and work in this field and leave with a clear conscious rather than stay and make things worse for all involved because you have invested money in your future! It’s easier for you to start over than it is for us to have to deal with the uncertainty of where you stand! New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination.
