Guest guest
This semester I had a small class in which gum was ever present (with 1/3 of the class on any given day) and it got to the point where I couldn't stay because I couldn't stop crying over the noise, but I felt ridiculous, so I just left without explaining. I talked with my professor, and he condoned sending an email to our class explaining what the problem was, why I'd left (and with it, why I went a few days asking everyone to spit out their gum before I completely gave up) with links to a few web sites. I mentioned that I wasn't asking anything of anyone, just wanted to explain my (seemingly) irrational behaviour; and that had an extreme effect. Since that message, only once has one person brought gum to class, and she moved her seat to be as far from mine as possible. A short explanation of the medical aspect works wonders . . . I have posted things online as well. 4s is actually how I cam to God, so i have posted my tesimony up on facebook and mostimportantthing.com i have gotten the courage to talk about it with a few close people. some let me down and abused me, but I did have one really good friend. It was awesome cause everytime I was coming down to the end of my rope, running out of patience, she was there and with the blue eyes it was like God was saying "It's okay, I'm here." and it would help me calm down and recompose myself. She would always find an exit for me when I needed to escape and there when I needed to cry. So alot of good can come out of trusting someone and alot of hurt. it's a risk. Trying to get the word out (in my own small way) It's very hard for me to talk to others about my problem with sounds; I'm sure everyone here can relate to that! I was labeled as rude by my own parents, and still am by my own mother and sister (my father, admittedly, was not as bad about it, God rest his soul).Recently, I touched two or three people in my life by simply explaining my problem in my blogs on MySpace and Facebook. Because I did this, this past Sunday morning, my Bible study teacher did something that I had never seen anyone do for me before (except for family members, who did it just to get me to shut up, and with much ill will): He took the piece of gum that he had been chewing out of his mouth and threw it in the trash can as he entered the room we were to have our class in. His wife also realized her own brother may suffer from the very same thing. I also found out another friend suffer from a different, but at the same time similiar condition, tinnitus.I'm also working on a free topic paper for my Spanish class. Though most likely only one person will read this paper, I decided that I could let one more person in this world know about us.I just wonder if anyone else has any other "small ways" to let others know our problem exist. Guest guest
My mom lives in a town of 30,000 people and she always writes letters to the editors in the town's only paper. It is read by everyone (the town is in the middle of the California desert with no surrounding cities). She wrote a letter about 4s and told people to call her if they are experiencing the same symptoms. She has had many phone calls and directed them to the yahoo group. Keep getting the word out. The more ways the better! -----Original Message-----
