Infant formula question

My sister is starting to have trouble breastfeeding and is

contemplating the milk based formula in NT. The bifodobacterium

infanis is quite expensive from what she told me and I was wanting to

know what could be used as a substitute for this? Could it be left

out? or should a little bit of homemade yogurt be added to supply

the beneficiall bacteria?

Becky,

Has your sister gotten help from La Leche League and/or a lactation

consultant? Both of them can be a BIG help in overcoming breastfeeding

problems, and I would recommend getting all the help she can from them

before resorting to formula--even a homemade healthy one. It still can't

fully compare to mother's milk. If you want to email me privately (or

your sister could), I could maybe give her some more pointers, although

there is nothing like someone who is right there. BTW, how old is her

baby?
