Guest guest
can you tell me how old he is.and is he verbal or nonverbal.and what meds he takes to help him with this.thanks becky Subject: HOPE for behavior problemsTo: autismbehaviorproblems Date: Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 9:27 AM Hi GroupJust wanted to post some hope...We went to Blake's monthly psychiatrist appointment yesterday, and I told him that I felt we had a breakthrough this month (I told him about how we were starting to be able to "talk him down" on certain episodic occasions.) And the doctor told me that these aggressive and self injurious behaviors will improve as Blake gets older and more cognitively able to control himself. Eventually he does see the day that we can wean him down from his meds. Maybe not totally off them all together, but certainly bring the amount down. He said as our children mature, we should start the process of teaching them self-regulation as we are doing with Blake. Eventually, he will learn how to do this on his own. He compared this to how typical people with anger management issues learn to control themselves.I am feeling much more optimistic about the future of these children. Of course, each situation is different in terms of the level of cognition. Some can learn it early while others will be adults. But if I were any of you, I would start the process right away, even if it doesn't kick in for a very long time. Herskowitzvalerieherskowitz. com McCain or Obama?
