Guest guest
It's interesting to read all from the parents how you reacted to the diagosis. I was diagnosed first March 16, 2007 and then again (because my old testing records had been lost) Dec 6, 2007. The first time, I felt I had way too little time to really get used to the dx, because there was so much that needed to be done. Not even two weeks from my dx and I was informing a new university about it and discussing accommodations, a few weeks later I was filing for fundign for home support for when I'd move to Nijmegen (current city), etc. etc. Te good thing is that I knew a lot about autism already prior to my diagnosis, because I had been self-diagosed for about two years a few years earlier (2002-2004, I was talked out of it by my parents). Pretty soon, I knew more abotu autism than my staff ad I am pretty certain that I know more about it than everyoen on this psych ward combined (because its'general locked ward and they see hardly any autistics here so they know nothing beyod what's in the DSM). IN a sense, I feel that I have no time to deal emotionally with the dx, because I need to devote all my time to educating the people around me, fightig the system, etc. I jus thave to be strong and stand for what I know about me and about autism. I guess some of you Moms who had a log battle with the school system prior to and after the dx have the same experience.
