Ane,

What medications did she receive while in the hospital? Our experience is that

Ativan and Haldol can cause the kind of reaction you are talking about.

Hi , so how much lactulose does she take, and is she on any miralax at all at this point or just the lactulose? Any mineral oil being given? How frequently does she pass a bowel movement, and are they firm/formed or are they soft like mashed potatoes? Is the color very dark or a normal brown or a light brown or an orange? Wcloyncloy wrote: Hi, I'm and my three year old daughter had been on miralax for about seven months. She's

always had issues with constipation ever since she was a tiny baby. She's currently on lactulose. I want to start potty training but there's always a poopy smear in her diapers. As soon as I take her diaper off, the new diaper is stained. Therefore, I can't put underwear on her yet. I just thought she'd be better by now. At this point I have no idea what to do to help her. She's been through several tests but no physical problem has been found. I was hoping that someone could recommend something. Thanks,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner - it's hard finding computer time now that my youngest is mobile.

has a really good bowel movement about every week and a half. Everyday, she constantly has little dry flakes and a lot of times wet smears in her diapers.

She'll have what my husband calls little meatballs but they're mushy. Her bowel movements are dark. When she was really small, she'd not go for a week and a half and we'd have to give her more than one enema and when she did go it was very difficult/ painful for her. We couldn't believe the size of the bowel movements that she'd have. She's had trouble with bowel movements ever since she was a few months old. My two kids are like night and day in that respect. My littlest often goes at least two times a day.

Oh, and during the day, will often lean forward and get red faced or squat or sit with her knees up. She looks like she's in a lot of pain. I ask her if she's trying to go or if she's trying to hold it in. She tells me that she's trying to go.

I'm really, really concerned about the leaking because her friends (as well as mine) notice the smell. I'm concerned about how it will affect her emotionally and socially later on if this continues to be a problem.

Thanks,

Alot of us come to this group saying it started around puberty because of their father making a certain noise. It's an interesting correlation but so many of us also have other sensory issues so I'm not sure anything conclusive can be drawn from this. I think we all started with 4s earlier than puberty but we just were too young to realize it. All kids tend to normalize whatever situation they are in. So we wouldn't necessarily be cognizant of it as a problem until we were older. I know from memory and my parents that I started with 4s far earlier than 12 and there's moms on the list with younger children. And the people we spend most time with would be parents which could be why they are the triggers. Their most immediatly available and intimate with us. In fact, and I wonder what

Dr. would think of this, but since I've joined this group and listened to what people's issues are, I'm wondering if 4s can't be subdivided even further.

I have had this since I was about 12 years old. I am 45 now. I suspect it began as a dysfunctional coping method due to the stress of eating dinner with my father. I believe it is possible that my young brain hardwired this relationship between eating sounds and emotional discomfort and that is why I will always have it. I know I cannot change this but for the younger people out there, it does get easier with time. What has helped is knowing this is in my head and has nothing to do with others and what I perceive to be offensive noises. I try not to be too harsh on myself or others. It changes nothing.
