Guest guest
Yep I remember that because the ironic thing is, is that his show that day helped me to find you guys. He said he'd have "help" for us on his website and I kept watching the message boards and then someone posted this group on there. I actually bought the CD's he was talking about to help people relax - but they obviously do not work for our condition. Yes, I was a sucker and wanted to try anything to help. Hope everyone is doing well in the new year! Thank you for all of your posts - I really appreciate all the support, thoughts and wonderful words!!!Kathy Howe wrote: No--he didn't respond to us, at least not that I know of. Guest guest
Dr. Phil's admonishment of the woman on his show to "Get over it", from the what I've heard so far, was not therepuetic, educated, or responsible, and so typicle in my perception of certain aspects of the mental health profession. It is treating someone as if they are having a usual response and exaggerating it. And I only hope that that poor woman, spoken to in that manner, by someone she was seeking help from, is not suffering even more as a result. I do agree that there are some issues that people will show more sympathy over. I wonder if depression is necessessarily an entirely unconnected issue from 4s, however. Also a true level of compassion for people who have depression isn't what I see. Those sympathetic sounding commercials on television for depression are so offensive to me, because now someone finally understands because the drug companies have a medication they wan't you to ask your doctor for.. Guest guest
Any guy who has a talk show to address people’s problems is probably in it for the money, not really to diagnose detailed conditions, his opinion matches most of the population. If you don’t have 4S then you cant relate to it because no one has educated anyone on it, unlike say depression where people can sympathise, 4S is something people would not understand and see it as ‘Get Over It’. On the other topic of sensory overload, and I saw a poll on it, I sneeze when I look at direct sunlight, I get an instant headache if I smell Play-Doh (the stuff kids play with) I also have the same reaction to a marzipan smell. Bright lights give me headaches and I too like strong flavors but not crazy hot. I notice things others don’t notice, like I am alert to any danger and ready for action. Hoping for a breakthough, MRI sounds interesting, I would have to convince my private health provider to coff up the money though.
