Guest guest
Stacie, I'm so sorry; that breaks my heart. Pat K Hello everyone! How are you all doing? So much is still going on here and I have been wanting to post about it but just did not have the energy to go through it all! So I decided this morning I would do it!So, on Fri I was going to s Halloween party at school! I was going to go around 1. Well I was at Walmart shopping for the surprise treat that I was taking and I got a call from the assistant principal, and it was about 1220! She said hi Stacie, I hate to tell you this but we need you to come and get . He is having a very hard time and Mrs Stampa had to restrain him for a half hour! I was like oh boy! Mrs stampa is the teacher that was in the meeting with us and the teacher that has for an hour or so a day and has sped kids and only 6 in her class but higher functioning kids! This is the class that they were thinking about moving into and we are going to observe tomorrow even though I can tell you right now I don't agree and neither does the psychologist from Little Friends as she confirmed to me the other day is not high functioning and he is low functioning. People think he is high because he is verbal. Anyhow I told her ok I am at the store getting treats for the kids. I will be there soon! When I got out to my car I called back and asked if he was calm now and she said yes! I said well since I am going to be there for the party and since he is ok now can we stay and if he starts acting up we will leave? She said the teachers thought he needed to be picked up but she would go down and aske them and let me know when I got there! So I got there with all my stuff for the kids! I got to the office and the principal came out and he said we can't let him stay! He punched Mrs Stampa and left a bruise on her face! I was horrified! He said he just can't let him stay because that is awarding a behavior and I could understand that! I told him I would of never asked if he could stay if I would of known that! I felt terrible! I guess he was restrained for a half hour and Miss Jenna helped some and the principal came and got him and took him with him for about an hour into the older kids music classes and he was ok and liked it and he said he is gonna try to do that more! lo ves music and learns by it too! Anyhow by now I am crying! I said this is what I deal with every day and they said we know and we are going to get you help! By this time the assistant principal was out there too! I just kept saying I am so sorry! Now remember in the meeting Mrs Stampa and everyone said they could not imagine acting like he does at home and with the aggression etc! Well I guess they see it now! And just on Wed I got a note home from Mrs Lotito the Autism specialist from the child service center and the one who works closely with Miss Jenna and and runs the support group about how they do not see these behaviors in school etc and then Miss Jenna wrote a note saying the same thing! So was brought down to me and kept saying I want go party and was crying and Mr Hickman said this is good because he is making the connection! I gave the cookie cake I bought for the class to Miss Yirmis the assistant and the cards for the teachers and the goodie bags for the kids and then we left both and I in tears! We talked about good choices and bad choices with pix cues and went home! I called his dr after I called Jim! Jim was at his grandmas house and I was bawling! I then called his Dr and was put right through to the nurse! Usually I have to leave a message but I was put right through and the nurse Maureen who we just love was very supportive listened then went and talked to the dr and called me back and she wanted me to take to get his Depekote levels checked by bloodwork and they increased his Risperdal! He was taking .25 at bedtime! Now since sat for 3 days he was to take half a pill and the full one at night and starting today it is a full pill in the am and a full one in the PM! Getting his bloodwork on Sat was very upsetting and we had to get someone else in there to help! He was very aggressive the rest of Fri that I did not take him out trick or treating! Sat he was pretty bad too! Sun and Mon were pretty good days! So that is what has been going on here! And also th e fact that I am not getting much in communication from Miss Jenna! I go today for paren teacher conferences at 10! I went for s yesterday and then also go for Lexies today at 130 and then have to vote in between those times! And hopefully go grocery shopping! Then tonight we have our group workout with my weightloss clinic!Have a good day everyone!Stacie Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T Plan your next getaway with AOL Travel. Guest guest
Hello my name is Oreyell and I am new to the group. my son is 6 years old and I just received his diagnoses in August. He was attending a all ESE school here in ville fl and I was continuing to get calls that he was cursing, he urinated on the bathroom floor over and over on a daily basis. Then around this time is phsyc eval came back and they agreed with the doctor that I should put my son on Adderrall and do some ABA with him and they still called and told me they had never seen a child like my son. I was hurt and needless to say frustrated. He ended up leaving the school. It really is embarrassing because you know that you teach your kids right from wrong and a lot of things that they do they can't help and the staff acts as if you are the worst parent. but how do you deal with ADHD and Autism all in one? Guest guest
Hi Oreyell, welcome! You are not alone. This group is a wonderful place,so happy you joined. My son curses and has many other behaviors that caused us to leave his school also. You are right, its embarrassing because we do teach right from wrong. Our kids have behaviors of their own that they, or we have no control of. Negative comments from outsiders just add to our grief and theirs. I really feel for you and your child. Guest guest
I'm just now reading this Stacie. Inquiry: Is he in a mainstreamed class right now...Is Miss Jenna a special Ed teacher or is she a "regular" teacher one in which sees for school (math, etc...)? OK---wait, maybe Mrs. Stampa is the "regular" teacher??? If you and the doctors say he is low functioning, why are they forcing him to be in a situation that makes him feel overwhelmed...Can't you be the judge and ask that he be positioned with those whom he is the most comfortable??? Excuse my ignorance...'s so little, but it makes sense that you should be the one that says where he is...if you do not think mainstreaming with higher functioning kids is a good thing and the doctor you trust concurs, then you all need to make 's plan? I'm soooooooooo sorry you are facing this...I'm sorry you are sorrowful, and tired, as you must be . Stacie, from what I can perceive you are being very strong during all this. I'm proud of you---I know that doesn't sound like much from someone you don't even know, but I'm proud of you!!! For now I'm going to keep calling on God for you. Guest guest
thank you. I am still searching for a school for him. I have been to 12 school in duval county and they just look at his matrix score and so no, no no, no!!!! So tired. I have been trying for 3 years to find the right fit. none yet. The private school he is in now I love the people and they way they treat him, they love him! AWH!!!! But they can not accommodate him he is not learning and they have no low ratios and he is further and further behind. They can deal with his behavior just fine but they can't teach him. It never fails it is always something. He can not right nor can he read but he is very verbal he talks to me and he asks questions. But that is it! Our kids have behaviors of their own that they, or we have no control of. Negative comments from outsiders just add to our grief and theirs. Guest guest
It's not solely a matter of teaching them right from wrong. You are a good mom. Get him good intervention and do it now. ABA is a good idea...or have you heard of RDI...? It is something you can do at home with him --- it's also a good combo with ABA. So sorry you are going through this... Glad you are here! e To: AutismBehaviorProblems Sent: Tuesday, November 4, 2008 12:35:10 PMSubject: Re: Re: What happened on Fri Hello my name is Oreyell and I am new to the group. my son is 6 years old and I just received his diagnoses in August. Guest guest
Hi,I am in the same boat. I can't find a school with any autism programs or resources for my son. I am homeschooling for now. If your son has a good caring experience now, even though he is not learning somethings, I think its still a good experience for him. Many of our kids are having a bad experience and not learning. Perhaps you can discover his learning style during this time. It takes lots of patience to find the right enviroment. You have done an excellent job of finding a good enviroment, thats worth its weight in gold. Its still learning, even if its not on paper or by reading. One of the moms,Sara in this group has a website of learning programs. Perhaps something will click with your son from one of her free resources, programs. Search posts from Sara or post a question to her. She is a teacher, mom and designed her programs with autism friendly learning ideas. Best wishes, Tishanne -- In AutismBehaviorProblems , Oreyell wrote: > > thank you. > Â > I am still searching for a school for him. The private school he is in now I love the people and they way they treat him, they love him! AWH!!!! Guest guest
thank you. I am waiting on help with the ABA from CARD and anything else they are wiling to help with and see if I qualify for a medicaid wavier. The school he left had those resources but the school he is at now doesn't. not even st. We go to wolfson's 2 times a week for st, ot, pt plus I work full time and have 2 terrible typical 2's at home. I am so stressed at times. I joined to meet more people like me, single parents with a child on the spectrum and other kids and are doing it alone and a dang good job if I do say so myself. My life does not include a spouse or someone to help pay bills or pick him up and go to doctors appointments, run to school when he is not at his best for every little meeting that could wait as if I have no job. I don't even have time right now for me or to think about the qualities in a man that make me happy. I think I am going to get a part time job as well to pay some of these medical bills. One thing after another. I know he will not put more on us than we can bare but lord knows I am at my limit! He said he just can't let him stay because that is awarding a behavior and I could understand that! I told him I would of never asked if he could stay if I would of known that! I felt terrible! I guess he was restrained for a half hour and Miss Jenna helped some and the principal came and got him and took him with him for about an hour into the older kids music classes and he was ok and liked it and he said he is gonna try to do that more! loves music and learns by it too! Anyhow by now I am crying! I said this is what I deal with every day and they said we know and we are going to get you help! By this time the assistant principal was out there too! I gave the cookie cake I bought for the class to Miss Yirmis the assistant and the cards for the teachers and the goodie bags for the kids and then we left both and I in tears! I guess he was restrained for a half hour and Miss Jenna helped some and the principal came and got him and took him with him for about an hour into the older kids music classes and he was ok and liked it and he said he is gonna try to do that more! loves music and learns by it too! Anyhow by now I am crying! I said this is what I deal with every day and they said we know and we are going to get you help! By this time the assistant principal was out there too! And also the fact that I am not getting much in communication from Miss Jenna! I go today for paren teacher conferences at 10! I went for s yesterday and then also go for Lexies today at 130 and then have to vote in between those times! And hopefully go grocery shopping! Guest guest
We're in Daytona Beach, and also go through CARD (UCF). We're really happy with the services they provide. As for the medicaid waiver...good luck. We've been on a waiting list for the past four years. We were told to basically 'forget about it', as there are 14,000 people ahead of my boys. They suggested that we get on the adult list, so when they reach 18, they will probably start getting services then. My boys are 6 and 7 years old. Guest guest
Thanks e. was so upset and kept saying I want to go to the party and the principal said that it was good that he was making the connection that he could not go because of what happened. I did agree then, that you do not get rewarded for behavior like that, but lets take into consideration my boy has Autism. I just dont know what I think right now. Stacie It's not solely a matter of teaching them right from wrong. You are a good mom. Get him good intervention and do it now. ABA is a good idea...or have you heard of RDI...? It is something you can do at home with him --- it's also a good combo with ABA. So sorry you are going through this... Glad you are here! e From: Oreyell <oreyelljames>To: AutismBehaviorProblems Sent: Tuesday, November 4, 2008 12:35:10 PMSubject: Re: Re: What happened on Fri Hello my name is Oreyell and I am new to the group. my son is 6 years old and I just received his diagnoses in August. Guest guest
Thanks Tishanne. What you said makes me feel better and I know you are right. I will have to email Sara and see if she can send me some of what she has. Stacie Hi,I am in the same boat. She is a teacher, mom and designed her programs with autism friendly learning ideas.Best wishes,Tishanne-- In AutismBehaviorProblems , Oreyell wrote:>> thank you.> > I am still searching for a school for him. You are not alone. I know how terrible it feels when our children hit a teacher or anyone. My son hit his teacher. I am right here with you on those feelings, tears. Did you get the whole story of s day or of what led up to him hitting the teacher? How did they restrain him?Hugs, best wishesTishanne>> Hello everyone! How are you all doing? So much is still going on here and I have been wanting to post about it but just did not have the energy to go through it all! So I decided this morning I would do it!> So, on Fri I was going to s Halloween party at school! I guess he was restrained for a half hour and Miss Jenna helped some and the principal came and got him and took him with him for about an hour into the older kids music classes and he was ok and liked it and he said he is gonna try to do that more! loves music and learns by it too! Anyhow by now I am crying! I said this is what I deal with every day and they said we know and we are going to get you help! By this time the assistant principal was out there too! And also the fact that I am not getting much in communication from Miss Jenna! I go today for paren teacher conferences at 10! I went for s yesterday and then also go for Lexies today at 130 and then have to vote in between those times! And hopefully go grocery shopping! Then tonight we have our group workout with my weightloss clinic!> Have a good day everyone!> Stacie> Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T>

Guest guest
Stacie, I am so sorry to hear what happened. i have been there of course. (J is 21 now). Does he have his own aid? J has always had his own aid. J also has his own rocking chair to sit in when he needs to calm out. Sometimes Don (His aid) just takes J for a walk in the building or outside to get him back on track.
