Guest guest
Teri, Well what is the severity of your condition? I have really bad CMT and I can't walk up and down stairs or go up a ramp without holding on and I am dependent on AFOs. I am 31 and I wonder once it gets worse and I am in a wheel chair if I would qualify but I doubt I would ever do that. I would much rather be working and keeping my mind and body active. I was a social worker for 9 years so I know about appling for SSDI or SSI. Which one are you applying for? Many people get turned down the first time. Lawyers are terrible about answering their clients calls. I work for the court system and I find it funny how when I call they are always there and pick up right away (called ID). I would get another attorney if he/she is unavailable. I wish you luck. Keep us posted. Andy
Guest guest
Hello Andy, Thank you for responding to my post. Sorry that it took me so long to respond back. Have been sick for a while, finally starting to feel somewhat human. Anyway, the " severity " of my condition is not as bad as what I have been reading of what others are going through. My main complaint is fatigue. I tire out easily. Most days I push through with a smile so as not to let others know. It is almost like I am ashamed to let others " see " what I am really feeling. I cannot walk long distances. Stairs can be a challenge at times. I do not " look " sick or disabled. I have the usual symptoms in my legs, burning sensations, muscle twitches, tiredness, heaviness, RLS. Arms get tired easily too. As far as the disability, I feel that without any obvious outward signs that I will be turned down again. I just don't know what to do. I know that I cannot work full time. I just don't have the strength or stamina. Talked to my Neurologist about the fatigue and he suggested that I have more bloodwork done to rule anything else out since he does not feel that my neuropathy is at a point where I should be having this much fatigue. I have started to complile letters from family and friends who can contest to the fact of my declining health to send along to lawyer or disability. I am going to be turning 37 next month but I feel more like I am in my 60's. I applied for regular disability since they said with my husband's income that I did not qualify for the SSI. Rambled a lot I know, but sometimes it is hard to keep all the thoughts straight. I believe also having chronic lyme does not help the CMT. Along with dealing with TMJ, RLS, bursitis, sciatica issues, migraines, anxiety, boy, do I sound like a FREAK!!!!!! Anyway, that is me and my issues!! Thanks for taking the time to read through everything and being another great friend here! Teri
