Guest guest
Hi all. I hope everyone is ready for this holiday season. I have a little problem that I desparately need advice on. I know that this is not the kind of subject one wants to read first thing in the morning so I'll try to make it as delicate as possible!!!!! , my three year old is showing to be what I think is a readiness for the potty. On numerous occasions my husband Mike and I have awakened to some of s', shall we say " creativity " . He will soil his diaper and then take it off. This has been costly because we rent a steam cleaner every time (needless to say I have asked Santa for one for Christmas). is delayed in his speech and is unable to communicate with us the need to potty and if we are asleep and this happens then we awake to a mess!!! I feel that he is trying to let us know that he is ready but I do not know where to begin. Any advice is welcomed. Thank you and sorry that this was a morning topic!! Happy Holidays Mom to (the snaggletooth..he is missing 5 teeth at once) Casey (the Hulk, 5years old and 77lbs.) and (MDS and Mr. Stinky)
Guest guest
My son does the same thing, but he is also famous for stripping in public! We keep him in long pant one pieces at all times. He can't get the diaper off with that on. I he is in pants, shorts, or a short one piece he will pull the diaper down and potty on the floor. He is 2.5 now, and is no where interested in the potty. We have tried! His sister trained at almost 4 years old, but never pulled any of his tricks. She was the opposite of him.... very verbal, just attached to her diapers. I even tried to " run out " of diapers when she was around 3. She promply told me that she would wear the panties just long enough for me to get to the store and buy her some more. " I like my diapers! " was her response. I believe that you can't rush them... they will train when ready and every child is different. But in the meantime, to keep your room from smelling like the men's restroom (like ours did!), try the one pieces. ---------- > From: JEMcC62@... > To: MosaicDSonelist > Subject: Potty Training > Date: Thursday, December 16, 1999 11:28 PM > > From: JEMcC62@... > > Hi all. Guest guest
Hello ! Just thought I'd pass this info on potty training along. There is an article entitled " Toilet Training Made Semi-Easy " by Kent Moreno, who is a Behavior Analyst and father of a child with DS. The article can be found at http://www.ds-health.com/train.htm It has a lot of good tips. My daughter (33 mos) is not yet trained, but we are working on that. She also has a 9 mo old sister, so 2 kids in diapers is expensive! Hope she catches on soon.... Guest guest
I had no idea that so many kids go through this yucky phase! Thank goodness, Maggie hasn't " been creative " since the summertime when it seemed like a daily ritual. We're actually making progress with potty training. She goes " poopee " in the potty about 75% of the time. But rarely does she go " peepee " in the potty. Our tactict has been to catch her when we thought she was about to go and give her the opportunity to go on the potty. As an inticement, she gets a small piece of candy when she's successful plus lots of praise. Also, we talk about our own bodily functions and toileting activities. This seems to help as a model for her. Good luck to everyone! Carla MO Maggie 3 1/2 (mds)
