Guest guest
No, Rena, you're not crazy. Just read over our 8 years of archives and you find we all have some kind of toe/foot/shoe problems. However, as for cutting it off: Amputation should be a very last resort, and it is permanent, and will alter not only your foot, but possibly your gait. I would like to suggest you get 3 opinions on this from orthopedic surgeons trained in the Foot and Ankle, and ones that have experience with CMT feet also. Orthopedic surgeons are trained Medical Doctors, who know the entire body. Podiatrists are not MD's, and they do not know the whole body, just feet. CMT is more than just about our feet - our nerves, bones, blood vessels, etc. are all connected, and a CMT amputation is a very permanent solution. There may possibly be better solutions for you from orthopedists. Take the time necessary to search for the best one; CMT feet/toes are so special, they need the very best special care. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi Rena, I'm not a doctor but I do have severely high arches, permanently curled toes and a lack of cushioning on my feet. I think the toe is probably important for balance. look for round toe shoes & sneakers. Simple is a good brand, Birks can be good, maybe Camper brand, certain sneakers that have less leather and more mesh around the ball of the foot help. If you can afford it- custom shoes are great. You don't have to get medical looking shoes - you can wear something stylish. If you go this route - get them in kid skin leather - it is very soft and durable. Also consider getting a flat soled shoe or boot. Good Luck, Chris
