Guest guest
I was diagnosed with a Charcot Foot BEFORE the diagnosis of CMT. In my case, the CMT neuropathy made me unaware of the breaking bones in my foot. It had been about three years that I questioned what was happening with my left foot, though I never got a satisfactory diagnosis. Until the bones failed, that is, when a consulting doctor diagnosed the Charcot condition. When that occurred in April, I was unable to walk. I also developed a blood infection and blew an abscess out the side of my foot. It was the ortho surgeon that cleaned out my abscess who diagnosed my CMT. Suddenly all the pieces fit. The foot continued to break down during the summer and in September I had surgery to replace the broken bones with grafts (cadaver bones) and fuse it all together. I'm just starting to walk again and hope to be able to wear shoes starting in February. Yes, a Charcot Joint is different from CMT, but keep in mind that CMT is one of the sources of neuropathy that causes it. O
Guest guest
I found the information I was looking for. Here is a great resource, at least for what I am currently experiencing. It is nearly word for word what my orth Dr. told me yesterday. I don't understand it, but I get it, you know? http://www.aofas.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3316<http://www.aofas.org/i4a/pa\ ges/index.cfm?pageid=3316>
