Guest guest
I understand people with CMT have/get motion sickness more frequently than others because our equlibrium is out due to CMT. Is this true? Have you found anything that works for motion sickness?
Guest guest
I have had this off and on since I was a baby. I have learned to accept and manage it. If I am riding in a car when someone else is driving, I sit in front, and no matter how cold the outside air is, I keep the window about 3 inches down, so I can have fresh air. (When I drive, no matter what, my window is always down) Rest assured on curvy mountain roads, I will be THE driver too! For trains, planes, sailing, etc., I've tried everything. One of the best OTC products I used was Marazine. (That was recommended by my pharmacist - that's what he used) http://www.medicinenet.com/meclizine_cyclizine-oral/article.htm The Transderm Scop patch is the absolute best - no need to take pills, the patch is small and round, and about two hours before a flight, or sailing, I place it behind my ear. No one except me knows it's there. And no motion sickness. This patch can be worn for 3 days in a row, then another applied if needed. Since I only have 'potential motion sickness' I use the patch as a precautionary tool. I also eat crystallized ginger too. http://www.transdermscop.com/ When sailing, I do well, by focusing on the horizon line. Interesting too, apparently the patch can used to stop post operative nausea too. I never got sleepy with use of either product. However, they both tend to make me thirstier than usual, so I always have extra water with me. Since my balance in general is alot better than it used to be, I can't say if this is CMT related or not, but in my case, I have to say it isn't. Seems that if it was, I'd be affected more with motion sickness than I am. Or maybe my aqua-balance exercises are really helping. Astronauts can get motion sickness, so I really don't believe this is due to our CMT. Guest guest
I buy generic meclizine instead of marezine or bonine. I get 1/2 size 12.5 mg because sometimes that is enough. You can get your pharmacist to order 100 of them for under $10, so they are a lot cheaper. I have needed these ever since an inner ear infection many years ago. They seem to keep for a long time.
