Chuck,

The thing I enjoyed about Yoga was that it was personal. I didn't have to keep

up with the group and all that is required is to do the poses as best you can.

If I'm not able to do a full pose, but can approximate it with the use of props

or support, that's OK.

When it came to balancing poses, I would move to a wall for support. With all my

recent foot problems, I'm not able to do standing poses anymore. So I do sitting

and laying down poses. There is more than one way to stretch a muscle, and

sometimes I can approximate a standing pose from a sitting position.

I would imagine that not every Tai Chi session looks like a Nexium

commercial in a bucholic setting. With the right instructor, it should be

possible to participate and still maintain balance.

And just maybe, with time, it will be possible to begin performing some of the

poses without assistance or support.

I just started going to a gym for the first time in 10 years and am going to

check out a class where they combine Yoga, Pilates and Tai-Chi. Waiting to talk

to instructor of how they can modify it for me. The good news, the PT was

watching me tonight and was really impressed at the way I was using the weight

machines and was complimenting my husband who was training me in making me stop

earlier than I wanted to so I don't exhaust myself and my muscles.

It felt great getting back into it! (of course, I may feel differently tomorrow

LOL)

Hi Jackie,

Wow, what great news! Thanks for sharing your 'return to the gym'

story. I will be interested to hear about the modifications made for

you too.

Keep at it, always starting slow.
