Guest guest
Hello, friends, How are you? Hope everything is fine with you. As a gradute student who often observe how professors work, I guess it is not a surprise for me to find that it is very difficult to have a meeting or appointment with doctors, especially in medical center related to an university medical school when the doctors are also professors teaching in universities. If the doctor is also a professor, then he has to work very long hours everyday. He not only has to meet patients in hospitals, but also has a lot of students to meet, including graduate students and undergradute students. If he also happens to hold adminstrative titles, such as dean or director, then he has to handle more things, such as bring research grant to school through rigorous competitions, improve the ranking of his medical school, otherwise the school will lose students next year. Then he will have to resign from dean or director, if other colleagues feel bad about losing school reputation and losing students. If he has not got tenure, then he has to do a lot of research and publish a lot of papers, otherwise he will get fired from university........ Another kind of tough life, although they might not have CMT. Please take care Caroline
Guest guest
Caroline, Thanks for explaining this to the group. This is precisely why my parents chose (for me) to leave the " university/clinic " setting and consult doctors in private practice where a 1 to 1 relationship could be fostered and an individual medical plan could be established for me, and me only. In my experience, this was much kinder and gentler. ~ Gretchen
