Guest guest
Folks: Here are Applegate Farms responses to my queries about what their animals eat. I was mistaken--they are not pastured at all. Also, Ms. DeHart needs to be educated about the dangers of too many omega-6 fatty acids in the diet. You say animals are >allowed to roam in open spaces. Does this mean they are eating grass/shrubs >on top of the organic feed you give them? " Our animals are free-roaming as opposed to organic. This means they are >given twice as much room to roam in open sided houses, which allows the >animals access to plenty of sunlight and fresh air. The animals do not >have access to grass or shrubs. > > " I was also wondering if the pigs have real access to sunlight as this >will increase the vitamin D levels in their fat. I'm sure you are aware of the >dangers of too much omega-6 fatty acids in the diet. " No, our animals are fed grain. You are correct in stating that some >omega-6 fatty acids will show up in their flesh and fat from this type of >diet. However, we do not believe this to be dangerous.
