Guest guest
When I was in school (I graduated high school in 02 and college in 06 and I'm currently in grad school)... In elementary school, they thought I wasn't very good at math... since I wasn't doing very well on my timed tests... I stayed in from recess one day and dictated my timed test... at that point they decided they needed to move me up a grade in math. In middle school, I was given a typing machine to take notes/do homework/etc. on. I was also allowed to skip gym if I didn't feel good. In high school, I was allowed to park handicapped, use the elevator, skip gym (though I usually didn't! we got to play basketball! and volleyball!). I also had a full set of books at home and was allowed to always type my homework. I was lucky at the University of Kentucky. The buildings were spread out so you could park at almost any building. It's not like that at most other schools. I was able to get a parking permit, so I never had to walk very far. My professors were understanding, but pushed me. They didn't want to baby me and I liked that. I was an animal science major and I was still allowed to palpate cows, wrestle sheep, play with horses, etc. I would have been in the wrong major if I didn't want to do that! Yeah, we need modifications, but we can still do anything we want! As my parents joke (I rode on the dressage team at school), " Liz, you're probably not the daughter that we thought would be on a sports team at a division one school. " (In other news, I'm finally over my mono and allowed to ride again! yay!!!) Liz
