Guest guest
Geri, I have educated my own docs and still do so. The docs now seem more " agreeable " to receive information I give them and listen to what I say. I think last week I related my story of my family friend neurosurgeon and what he told me when I was a teen: that I am writing my own unique medical history... " So, since I'm very much alive and kicking, when something comes along about CMT that's new, I make sure my doctor gets a copy for my File and the next appointment he usually has a few questions or comments. I have at times contacted 2 CMT doctors I know to ask a question that I do not know - but this is mainly for purposes of the group and not my own self. The doc who did my tendon surgery was an ordinary orthopedist specializing in feet - he was also the one to diagnose me. And that was about 1962 or so. He is deceased now. All the neurologists I saw after that seemed clueless, although the one who suggested Potassium supplements to me was on to something, but he retired. Early Internists in my life suggested B12 injections. My Internist in LA suggested Vitamin E, and my Internist here suggested Blackstrap Iron and my new Vitamin B + C supplements. My orthopedic surgeon for my back suggested Aquatics, and he is my favorite of all. Open, honest, willing, a good listener, communicative, thorough, conservative in his treatment approaches, fun to be his patient - although I haven't had to see him since 2003. ~ Gretchen
