Hey Jen,

I would imagine addiction can be strong with people

with CMT. Pain is a huge part of CMT. I was on

Percosets for 2 years and took it more like a regular

med then a PRN. I was all worried if I forgot to

bring them or close to running out. I found it so

easy for it to be prescribed. I realized after a

while they did nothing for me and I did not want to

get in a habit of doubling up to get a quick rush. I

realized in time it also didn't last so long and

coming off of them made me feel worse. I then did the

pacthes which was stronger and I felt pretty good on

them but hated the patches.

Then my doctor put me on MS Contin's. Honestly they felt similar to the

Percosets and it made me feel much worse when they wore off. Lastly I was put

on Hydromorphone or Diluadid. They honestly worked best out of all of them but

I only take them when I am really in a lot of pain. I never weaned myself off

of them just stopped.

I honestly say if you are in regular pain like me and

need something not so strong but effective and long

lasting take Neurontin and Ultracet which is a

non-narcotic. I feel so much better on them.

The problem is multifaceted. One the truth of the

matter is CMT is painful doing almost any activity.

Secondly doctors will be quick to give you anything.

Pain killers will make you age quickly and make your

teeth rott out quick. My sister was addicted to

Vicodin and she is only 34 but honeslty looks 50.

I am surprised I was not addicted to them since my

mother was and still is an addict.

Hang in there and please feel free to contact me. I

am not a psychologist but I was a mental health

therapist for 9 years so I have a lot of experience in

this area. My screen name on is

newbrunswickguy031300. Hang in there and let us know

how you are doing.

Andy
