Guest guest
OMGosh Tami! I can imagine these extremes if THEY were having to foot the bill, but if it's something YOU are paying for and will benefit all of the children... I understand your frustration! Well, I'm certainly not the favourite parent at my kids school right now either ;-) I think they want me and all of my "extreme" ideas to go away... So I was looking at the ingredients of the Air Sponge -- (I know the kids won't be wearing the sponge or eating it, but I think inhaling something is similar to ingesting it...) - CDA 19 Alcohol - Charcoal - Propylene Glycol - DB 45 Calfax - Sodium Sterate - Water I'm totally not trying to crap on anybody's ideas :-) Just wanting to make sure if I put this in my daughter's sensory room I won't be adding to the toxin issue. Is there anything that will *inexpensively* give me an air quality reading to let me know if the Air Sponge or any other air filtering device is working effectively to eliminate toxins?? I'm particularly concerned about measuring levels of PCVs from the vinyl floor mats. Thanks! Kim
Guest guest
I'm a bit concerned about the ingredients as well. That would be cool if they had a device to measure the off-gassing or chemicals in a room. I know when we had our environmental inspection the inspector did a lot of "sniffing". Now that I look back, it was pretty funny. (just see that picture in your head) Tami Re: OT: How to "air" out... OMGosh Tami! Guest guest
When our house would smell moldy after being closed up for a few days, my mom would get a bag of charcoal briquets, put them out in an old baking pan and just leave them on the counter or under the sink. It seemed to work. Worth trying and you can get untreated briquets. Guest guest
Wow - what a brilliant idea! A couple of months ago they were giving out sample sized bags of natural charcoal briquettes at Whole Foods. I took one and stuffed it away with the long abandoned BBQ stuff in the back yard. Just pulled it out and opened the bag. It's one single chunk of charcoal in the shape of a heart. Pretty cute. I'm going to put it on top of my son's bedroom bookcase. Can't hurt! Here is the website: http://www.greenheartsbriquette.com/ As for an inexpensive way to test air for toxins.... how about I rent out my son? (kidding) He's a very accurate measurement device, but he can't tell you which chemical turns him from an NT child to an ASD one in just a few minutes. Because at that point his expressive language deteriorates to " blah, blah, blah " sounds with his tongue along with head shaking and hand flapping. One day I should take a video camera into a store with us to record the transformation. Bed Bath and Beyond is always the worst for him. Or the cleaning products aisle at Safeway. Walmart and Target are a close second. Along with the new AMC movie theater. Even my eyes were burning in there! He usually gets a rash to go along with it. The good thing is he comes out of it quickly, but is just a bit " off " with reduced receptive language and compliance for a few days after. The rash takes about a week to clear up. I got the air sponges to try out at work (industrial chemicals from our company plus water damage mildew from the upstairs tenants) so I'll see if they have a negative impact on me first. Might pick up a whole bag of the briquettes and hide them around the house and office like the easter bunny. All the staff think I'm nuts anyway, so whats one more crazy thing..... ;-) > > When our house would smell moldy after being closed up for a few days, my mom would get a bag of charcoal briquets, put them out in an old baking pan and just leave them on the counter or under the sink.
