Guest guest
Hi , So glad to hear that I am not alone with the same issues. Yes I have acid reflux and it can be terrible at times. I get trapped gas in my stomach that is painful. Sometimes it lasts for days. It is very miserable. As for the " potty " issues I have constipation and the running to the potty thing, but not as bad as what you are dealing with. I have that issue about 1x a week. Just seems to come on out of the blue. Leaves me running to the potty and praying that no one is in hearing distance!!! Anyway, I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. Which can irritate the reflux. My doctor suggested fiber to regulate things. Not sure if this would be good for you since you seem to spend a lot of time in the bathroom anyway. I did read that CMT can cause digestive issues. I am sure that Gretchen can supply more information on the topic for you. Sorry that I could not be of help to you, but wanted to let you know that you were not alone! Teri
Guest guest
I have GERD and have to take Prilosec every day. It knocks it out completely.
Guest guest
Hi , I take prilosec (daily) for reflux. There is a bad bug going around - it is like 2 weeks of food poisoning - I hope that is all it is. Take care - Good health, Chris
Guest guest
Adam also has digestive problems. I think it is because he eats anything and everything with HOT HOT sauce or Lemon. The spicier the better. He ate a can of slim jims once and it put him in the hospital. My daughter without CMT also has reflux. I don't like to give CMT any credit for these common problems. I like to feel " Normal " every now and then.
Guest guest
Hi , My son Ethan is 14 and has CMT type 1A. He has constant problems with acid reflux and diarrhea. I recently took him to his regular doc not his neurologist and he thinks he has IBS (irratable bowel) I have been reading aobut it and I can't shake the feeling that CMT has something to do with it. From what I read the nerves that go to your intestines can't get the signal right . He takes med for IBS right before he eats and it has seemed to help. Hope this helps and you feel better soon -
Guest guest
I have found taking digestive enzymes has really helped. Warm Wishes to all,
Guest guest
I agree with . When I first joined this group a few years ago I made the remark that I often thought " hmmm - is it CMT that causes that? " but then I know that so many other people suffer the same thing and they don't have CMT. So now unless it is clearly nerve / nerve transmission related I am sure it is just another normal ache and pain or whatever. All the best from SNOWY London! Talk about in like a lion... Guest guest
Thank you to all who responded. The input I received will give me some idea how to approach the problems I have. I will be seeing my neurologist in a couple weeks and will bring up the possibility of CMT involvement in both the acid reflux and other problems. Part of the acid reflux problem these days I believe is in part due to the way everyone eats and what they eat. But I do believe there are exceptions where a disease such as CMT may be at least part of the cause. Thanks again.
