Guest guest
Hi Sheryl, I'm visiting my family on the east coast this week. You may have already received an answer to this already. The 500mg tablets have a line to help you cut it in half. I think that's the easiest way. Some people use the 1000mg tablets and cut them in quarters to save some money (sometimes you can get the 1000mg tablets at a price that is a savings... not at my local pharmacy though). I don't feel that 2000mg makes sense for a 50 lb child since the adult dosage is 3000mg. I certainly wouldn't start out at that dosage. I'm thinking more like 750mg working your way up to 1000mg. That's just my view. - Stan > > Hi everyone, > > My DAN is going to send me a Rx for Valtrex for my son. If we want to start out at 250mg 3X/day (for a total of 750) and work up to 1,000mg, would it be easier to cut a 500mg pill in half, or a 1,000mg pill into quarters? I don't know how easy it is to cut these pills into accurate dosages, so I figured I'll ask all of you who have been doing it. Also, there was a post by Dr. JM that once referenced giving a child between 45 and 65#, 2,000mg per day of Valtrex? Since my son is around 50#, should I be working up towards 2,000mg per day or max out at 1,000mg per day? > > Thanks, > Sheryl >
